I've been attacked, my husband started downloading from strange sites, w/o my permisson, and now we have issues.

I've already deleted all temporary files and folders, used Ad Aware, CW Shredder, Spybot, and Trend. :tazz:

I did all of the above as instructed in the sticky. Now below is my HJT file.

Please help, thanks in advance!

Hello and welcome to Geeks To Go. My name is Sam and I will be helping you.
Lets start out with some general scans and see if we cant clean things up a little.

+++++ Step 1 +++++

Please download Ewido security suite it is a trial version of the program.
  • Install Ewido security suite
  • Launch Ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop double-click it.
  • The program will prompt you to update click the OK button
  • The program will now go to the main screen
You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
  • On the left hand side of the main screen click update
  • Click on Start
The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
Once the updates are installed do the following:
  • Click on scanner
  • Make sure the following boxes are checked before scanning:
    • Binder
    • Crypter
    • Archives
  • Click on Start Scan
  • Let the program scan the machine
While the scan is in progress you will be prompted to clean files, click OK

Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
  • Click Save report
  • Save the report to your desktop
+++++ Step 2 +++++

Please run an on-line virus scan at Kaspersky OnLine Scan or if that doesnt work, you can use TrendMicro or BitDefender. (Please post the results of the scan(s) in your next reply)

+++++ Step 3 +++++

After that, I will need to see two different logs from HiJackThis. The first is the normal log like you posted here. To get the other one, follow these directions.

Open HijackThis, click Config, click Misc Tools
Click "Open Uninstall Manager"
Click "Save List" (generates uninstall_list.txt)
Click Save, copy and paste the results in your next post.

Post back with those logs and we can continue from there.

If you have recieved help elsewhere or no longer need our assistance, please let us know.

What we checked:
Microsoft known security vulnerabilities. These are issues Microsoft has identified and released Critical Updates to fix.
Results:
We have detected 4 vulnerability/vulnerabilities on your computer. Only 0 out of 0 vulnerabilities are displayed.
Risk Level Issue How to Fix
Highly Critical This vulnerability enables a remote attacker to execute any file that can be rendered as text, and be opened as part of a page in Internet Explorer. MS03-014
Critical This update resolves a newly-discovered, publicly reported vulnerability. A vulnerability exists in the HTML Help ActiveX control in Windows that could allow information disclosure or remote code execution on an affected system. MS05-001
Critical This security bulletin resolves the following vulnerabilities affecting Internet Explorer.; The PNG Image Rendering Memory Corruption vulnerability could allow an attacker to execute arbitrary code on the system because of a vulnerability in the way Internet Explorer handles PNG images.; The XML Redirect Information Disclosure vulnerability could allow an attacker to read XML data from another Internet Explorer domain because of a vulnerability in the way Internet Explorer handles certain requests to display XML content. MS05-025
Critical HTML Help is the standard help system for the Windows platform. Authors can use it to create online Help files for a software application or content for a multimedia title or a Web site. This vulnerability in HTML Help could allow attackers to execute arbitrary code on the affected system via a specially crafted Compiled Windows Help (CHM) file, because it does not completely validate input data. MS05-026

Sorry about recommending Ewido for you. :tazz:
I missed that you were on a 98 machine.

Download instead the free version of A Squared.
http://www.majorgeek...wnload4281.html

You'll need to register with them in order to download the updates. But it's free and A2 is a very compliement to your antivirus program.
Once you have installed all of the updates, close A2.

Were you able to run A Squared? If so, try to get the log from that scan and post it here. You are not quite clean yet.

Fix these lines with Hijackthis.

O2 - BHO: CExtension Object - {0019C3E2-DD48-4A6D-ABCD-8D32436323D9} - C:\WINDOWS\CFGMGR52.DLL (file missing)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [cfgmgr52] RunDLL32.EXE C:\WINDOWS\CFGMGR52.DLL,DllRun
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Sccb] C:\Program Files\toee\cued.exe

Next delete these files, if present.

C:\Program Files\toee\cued.exe
C:\WINDOWS\CFGMGR52.DLL

Are you familiar with this program? What I mean is, is this something that you installed and/or know about?

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WinFixer 2005] "C:\PROGRAM FILES\WINFIXER 2005\WFX5.exe"

Reboot and post a new hijackthis log and the log from A Squared.

WinFixer is fine to keep as long as you know what it is and you installed it.

Your log is clean!

Now that you are clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:
  • Disable and Enable System Restore. - If you are using Windows ME or XP then you should disable and reenable system restore to make sure there are no infected files found in a restore point left over from what we have just cleaned.

You can find instructions on how to enable and reenable system restore here:

    Managing Windows Millenium System Restore

    or

    Windows XP System Restore Guide

Renable system restore with instructions from tutorial above

  • Make your Internet Explorer more secure - This can be done by following these simple instructions:
    • From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
    • Click once on the Security tab
    • Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
    • Click once on the Custom Level button.
      • Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt

  • Update your AntiVirus Software - It is imperitive that you update your Antivirus software at least once a week (Even more if you wish). If you do not update your antivirus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.

  • Use a Firewall - I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer. Without a firewall your computer is succeptible to being hacked and taken over. I am very serious about this and see it happen almost every day with my clients. Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly.

For a tutorial on Firewalls and a listing of some available ones see the link below:

  • Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://www.windowsupdate.com regularly. This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer. If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site until there are no more critical updates.

  • Install Spybot - Search and Destroy - Install and download Spybot - Search and Destroy with its TeaTimer option. This will provide realtime spyware & hijacker protection on your computer alongside your virus protection. You should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software.

  • Install Ad-Aware - Install and download Ad-Aware. ou should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software in conjunction with Spybot.

  • Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.
Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.
