Problem started with McAfee security suite, which was so restrictive, we disabled it. Highjack This! log shows several McAfee files still loaded. "Click dot click" is diverting Explorer, and we cannot find it or get the Windows firewall to load. I know muti-variable analysis is a pain. I can post the Highjack This log if I can get to the computer. It's our desktop which is the LAN internet connection for our DSL.

Thank you for getting back to me. I had about given up. Since I last posted, I have loaded Norton and Earthlink's full security. I just ran Spybot and Adaware, and I will see if I can copy in my HijackThis! result. I will tell you that Norton identified 2 viruses -- Trojan Start Page and Desktophijack that it says it can't fix.

Hello!

Your have a number of infections, so we will take them 1 step at a time.

Please Download LSPFix.zip

Unzip the program to your desktop.

Run LSPfix and place a check against the I know what I am doing checkbox.

Highlight every instance of the following names and move them from the Keep to the Remove panel. Be sure to move nothing other than the files listed below!

flsmngr.dll

When done, click on Finish to exit the program; do not use the X in the top right-hand corner as nothing will happen!

Then post a new HiJackThis log. :tazz:

Done. There were 4 malicious-looking things that showed up when I ran lsp.fix

Now what, oh, benevolent one?

Hello!

Download smitRem.exe and save the file to your desktop.
Double click on the file to extract it to it's own folder on the desktop.

Place a shortcut to Panda ActiveScan on your desktop.

Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/

Please read Ewido Setup Instructions
Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

If you have not already installed Ad-Aware SE 1.06, follow these download and setup instructions, otherwise, check for updates:
Ad-Aware SE Setup
Don't run it yet!

Next, please reboot your computer in SafeMode by doing the following:
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.
Now scan with HJT and place a checkmark next to each of the following items, then click FIX CHECKED:

Close HiJackThis.

Open the smitRem folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.

The tool will create a log named smitfiles.txt in the root of your drive, eg; Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

Open Ad-aware and do a full scan. Remove all it finds.

Run Ewido:
  • Click on scanner
  • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • NOTE: During some scans with ewido it is finding cases of false positives.
  • You will need to step through the process of cleaning files one-by-one.
  • If ewido detects a file you KNOW to be legitimate, select none as the action.
  • DO NOT select "Perform action on all infections"
  • If you are unsure of any entry found select none for now.
  • When the scan is finished, click the Save report button at the bottom of the screen.
  • Save the report to your desktop
Close Ewido

Next go to Control Panel click Display > Desktop > Customize Desktop > Web > Uncheck "Security Info" if present.

Reboot back into Windows and click the Panda ActiveScan shortcut, then do a full system scan. Make sure the autoclean box is checked!
Save the scan log and post it along with a new HijackThis Log, the contents of the smitfiles.txt log and the Ewido Log by using Add Reply.
Let us know if any problems persist.

I couldn't get the panda scan icon to add to my desktop, so I just went to the site and ran it. And I can't figure out where my ewido report went. I thought it saved it in something called "reports," but it isn't associated with the program. OK, I'm a moron.

I also could not find any "repair all" of whatever button on the Panda scan, so I guess that crap's still there, but when I rescanned, it didn't show up. Some of the spyware is definitely gone.

Hello!

Would you mind posting the logs as a reply to this topic and not as a download?

Thanks!

Sorry. I thought I did it the best way. Proof that geeks have no social life. It's midnight on a Saturday night, and you're messing with this. If I were your mother/girlfriend/wife, I'd be concerned. I'll copy 'em in.

Hello!

Please run ewido again, and save the log to yoru desktop. Then post the ewido log for me. Also post a new HiJackThis log, but be sure to run the HiJackThis Scan after you run ewido.

Sorry.  I thought I did it the best way.  Proof that geeks have no social life.  It's midnight on a Saturday night, and you're messing with this.  If I were your mother/girlfriend/wife, I'd be concerned.  I'll copy 'em in.

Hello. I can't help but comment on this. There is no call to be condescending or rude to a Staff member here. Jfcap is dedicating his time and experience for FREE to help you clean up your computer. And in return he gets put down for being here? I should think you would be singing his praises.
I assure you...all of us DO have lives. But we also truly love to HELP people in need, and this is the way we choose to do so.
