I appreciate help in this matter. It's driving me nuts.

My pc most often will not shut down. It freezes up and I eventually have to turn off the pc. When I reboot I get a message telling me that there was an error and to hit any key to continue or hit Ctrl, Alt, Delete. If I do either of these things, the computer does nothing. I have to reboot again. This time the computer goes into save mode. At this time I can restart the computer and then proceed normally.

I often get a message when I go to certain sites that tell me my activex is disabled and that I may not be able to view the page on my computer. I tried updating Windows today and had the activex box pop up a number of times and I was unable to proceed with the update.

Thank you for your help. I hope I have described the problems in a way that are understandable.

Let us take a closer look at what is running on your PC. We'll need you to use a free diagnostic tool (HiJackThis) and post a log back here with the results.

Click the HijackThis Guide in my signature, download it and follow the instructions in the guide.

Most of what it lists will be harmless or even essential, DO NOT delete or modify anything yet! Someone will be along to tell you what steps to take after you post the contents of the scan results.
