Hello and welcome to Geeks To Go. My name is Sam and I will be helping you.
Lets start out with some general scans and see if we cant clean things up a little.

+++++ Step 1 +++++

Download Hoster.

http://www.funkytoad...load/hoster.zip

This will restore your original Host files.
Run the program and press Restore Original Hosts and press OK.

+++++ Step 2 +++++

Please download Ewido security suite it is a trial version of the program.
  • Install Ewido security suite
  • Launch Ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop double-click it.
  • The program will prompt you to update click the OK button
  • The program will now go to the main screen
You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
  • On the left hand side of the main screen click update
  • Click on Start
The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
Once the updates are installed do the following:
  • Click on scanner
  • Make sure the following boxes are checked before scanning:
    • Binder
    • Crypter
    • Archives
  • Click on Start Scan
  • Let the program scan the machine
While the scan is in progress you will be prompted to clean files, click OK

Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
  • Click Save report
  • Save the report to your desktop
+++++ Step 3 +++++

Please run an on-line virus scan at Kaspersky OnLine Scan or if that doesnt work, you can use TrendMicro or BitDefender. (Please post the results of the scan(s) in your next reply)

+++++ Step 4 +++++

After that, I will need to see two different logs from HiJackThis. The first is the normal log like you posted here. To get the other one, follow these directions.

Open HijackThis, click Config, click Misc Tools
Click "Open Uninstall Manager"
Click "Save List" (generates uninstall_list.txt)
Click Save, copy and paste the results in your next post.

Post back with those logs and we can continue from there.

If you have recieved help elsewhere or no longer need our assistance, please let us know.

Hello Sam!

many thanks for your quick reply on our topic.
I've done everything you told me except the online scan which I can't seem to get done right. my connection blocks somewhere and I get a message 'generic host has created an error' or something and 'do I want to send a message or not?'

Here go all the other:

Ewido security:

Let's clean up some more manually and see if we can get your connection back.

Please make sure that you can VIEW ALL HIDDEN FILES.

Place a checkmark next to these entries, close all browsers and windows, and have HijackThis fix them by clicking Fix Checked:

Hello Sam!
It seems we have a huge time difference..I never seem to find you online. Anyway, many thanks for your assistance on my problems, if you ever come to Greece, be sure to give me an email!

Ok, I have done everything you told me.
While in safe mode the only files of the ones you mention I found are:
C\Windows\system32\svchosts.exe
(which is deleted and gone)
C\Windows\system32\xpjava.exe
(which is a hidden file and can’t be deleted. I get the following message by trying:
Cannot delete xpjava/ Access is denied. Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is note currently in use)

Here is my new log and I can see this xpjava thing is here:

I think I might be about as far away from Greece as anyone can be, but thanks for the invitation. :tazz:

Fix these lines with Hijackthis.

F2 - REG:system.ini: UserInit=userinit.exe,xpjava.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Windows Media Player] 50cent.exe
O15 - ProtocolDefaults: 'http' protocol is in My Computer Zone, should be Internet Zone
O23 - Service: Mouse Hardware Sync (mousehs) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\System32\mousehs.exe (file missing)

===========

Download KillBox and unzip it to your desktop.
http://www.downloads...org/KillBox.zip

Open Killbox and select the Delete on reboot option.
Copy and paste the following file to the field labeled "Full path of file to delete"

C:\WINDOWS\System32\xpjava.exe

Press the Delete button (the button that looks like a red circle with a white X in it).
A first dialog box will ask if you want to delete the file on reboot, press the YES button.
A second dialog box will ask you if you want to REBOOT now. Press the YES button.

Your computer will reboot.

============

Please post a new hijackthis log. How is your Internet connection? If you have it back please run this online virus scan.

Panda Virus Scan

There may be files that this scan will not remove. Please include that information in your next post along with your hijackthis log.

Hi Sam,

I did what you told me to, fixed selected items in Hijackthis and killed with Killbox.
Then I asked for a new log and I saw that

F2 - REG:system.ini: UserInit=userinit.exe,xpjava.exe
O23 - Service: Mouse Hardware Sync (mousehs) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\System32\mousehs.exe (file missin
where still there.

So I did the whole procedure once more, and in Killbox upon deleting this row
C:\WINDOWS\System32\xpjava.exe

I got following msg:
PendingFileRenameOperations Registry Data has been removed by External Process!

Anyway, internet connection is still messed up.
I am kind of hoping that this not due the virus but some modem problem, but who knows?

Here is my new log:

It's looking better each time. You are just about there. :tazz:

Click Start -> Run -> (type) services.msc

Scroll down and find the service called Mouse Hardware Sync When you find it, double-click on it. In the next window that opens, click the Stop button, then click on properties and under the General Tab, change the Startup Type to Disabled. Now hit Apply and then Ok and close any open windows.

Run Hijackthis and click on Open the Misc Tools section -> Delete an NT Service
Copy and paste this into the text box and click OK.

mousehs

Reboot and post a new hijackthis log.

That's ok, we can try it another way.

Click Start -> Run and type cmd in the Open: line. Click OK.
Type each of these hitting enter after each one.

sc config mousehs start= disabled
sc stop mousehs
sc delete mousehs

Reboot and post a new hijackthis log.

The beach sounds wonderful. I don't know how it's been in Greece lately, but here in Ohio it's been very hot.

Good job on getting rid of that service. It is indeed gone. :tazz:

Fix this line with Hijackthis.

F2 - REG:system.ini: UserInit=userinit.exe,xpjava.exe

Now let's try Killbox again.

If you get that same error again, just reboot manually.

Post a new hijackthis log and we'll see what we have.

Hey Sam!

You wanna hear something REALLY strange?
I can't initiate Hijackthis, it seems completely dead.
I tried to download again (fortunately I hadn't removed it yet from the computer) and 'my security settings don't allow me to download this file'

What is going on??

Hey I can see your online!

Hmmmm.... :tazz: That's new.
It's ok though because we got rid of everything except for xpjava so we can work around it for now.

Did you get Killbox to work this time?

Download rkfiles.zip
http://skads.org/special/rkfiles.zip
Unzip the contents to a permanent folder.

Reboot your computer into Safe Mode

Doubleclick rkfiles.bat
It will scan for a while, so please be patient.
Wait till the DOS window closes and reboot back to normal mode.

Post the contents of C:\log.txt in your next reply.

Hi Sam,

this is frustrating..I can't download the link you gave me and I get:
'security settings don't allow this file to be downloaded'

also hijackthis is not working and I can't download it again, I get the same msg

and from the menu start->... connect to (network connections)
is vanished!
I had to go to the network connection table to start the dial-up

I also get some alerts from ewido for the following virus found
Spyware.ClientMan

As for Trojan.Collected.5.L today is the first day since weeks that the avg alert didn't appear upon starting the computer...

Sam, if I knew you better I'd curse my luck but I'll just say that I am a n g r y and I think I might just format the whole thing.
What do you think?

tomorrow I have to leave to Athens to attend a wedding and I will be back on Wednesday, just so you know.

regards
Mariella
