I have a computer with Windows 98SE. Yesterday I accidentally downloaded and launched WinFixer 2005 and it started displaying popup boxes for pornography web sites, etc. I went to "Add / Remove Programs" and uninstalled it, but in the process I lost autoexec.bat, plus config.sys is damaged. As a result, whenever I boot up, the screen looks like (but isn't) the "Safe Mode" screen. I also can't use the mouse, since the driver is lost. Is there any way to fix this mess without reinstalling Windows?

I've thought of connecting it to another computer via a crossover cable and copying the important data files (which weren't backed up) that way, but I'm not sure if I can disable the firewall and set the C: drive to allow sharing without the use of a mouse. I've also thought of adding a new (boot) drive and doing a fresh install of Win98.

Any suggestions? Many thanks for your help.
