Hi Mrfrosty,

We are sorry to have missed your log due to heavy traffic.

I will help you clean your PC :tazz:

Please print out these instructions or copy them into a text file on your Desktop for easy access.

During the fix, u will be asked to fix some entries, delete some files or uninstall sosme programs. If in case, you do not see those entries / files / programs, please make a note of it. Continue with the fix and in your next post please inform me of all deviations from the fix prescribed.

1. Download Programs

Please download these programs and save them in a new folder on your desktop -

CleanUp
Ewido Security Suite

Install Ewido, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

2. Run Hijack This

Run Hijack This and click on scan. The following items need to be fixed -

Close all windows other than Hijack This. Check the boxes next to above items and click on Fix checked.

Restart the PC in Safe Mode (repeatedly tap the F8 key when the PC is starting up).

3. Delete Rogue files

Run Ewido full scan. Let it fix any items it finds.

Open Windows Explorer (right click on Start and then click on explore). Locate and delete the following folders and files -

C:\WINDOWS\Web\utiltcp.dll

Hello tampabelle,

thanks for the help.

i ran the first 2 programs as listed and then re-booted.

I am not sure what happened, but something is wrong.

Most of my desktop icons do not work. My start bar is usually at the bottom, but it i not there. If I hit the windows key, it pop's up, but it's all blank.
All of the icons on my desktop look like when you highlight them (they are covered in blue) if that makes any sense.

any idea what I did wrong or how to fix? Do i need to reorrmat and start over?

- I stil get the winfixed thing
- still getting the slow down

Once you see this screen click on each instance of utiltcp.dll once and then click the kill button.

After you have killed all of the utiltcp.dll under winlogon click ok.

Next double click on explorer.exe and again click once on each instance of utiltcp.dll then click the kill button. Click on the Threads tab at the top.

Now click fix checked and close HijackThis.

Please copy the text from within the code box below and paste it into a blank notepad window.

I have downloaded the apps, but I can't run them.

I get the following error:

c:\documents and sttings\michael richardson\desktop\procexp.exe

this appliction has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect.

Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.

I have tried in both regular and safe modes.

# Double-click the FxVundoB.exe file to start the removal tool.
# Click Start to begin the process, and then allow the tool to run.
# Restart the computer.
# Run the removal tool again to ensure that the system is clean.
Save the log file it generates

Reboot the PC in Normal Mode.

Please visit Panda and do an online scan. Save the scan report.

Run Hijack This and post a fresh HJT log along with Panda scan report along with Vundo log file.

Hi Mrfrosty,

Step 1
Please go to this page - http://www.tech-foru...opic/29806.html.

Download the appropriate file (i.e. either the XP Pro or XP Home version file). Run the file and let it install the files in your system folders.

please delete the procexpnt.zip and the extracted procexp.exe file already downloaded and extracted by you.

Step 2

Download Process Explorer by Systernals again from here.

Unzip the file and save the extracted files on your desktop.

Download fixvundo.reg

Step 3

Please reboot the PC in Safe Mode (repeatedly tap the F8 key when the PC is starting up).

In the top section of the Process Exlporer screen double click on winlogon.exe to bring up the winlogon.exe properties screen. Click on the Threads tab at the top.

If you see any .ini or ,bak files with either the same name or the file name in reverse, kill them as well

Once you have done that click ok again.

Step 4

Next run HijackThis and place a check beside each of the following.

O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {6F71C05E-6C91-4A3A-9146-9C19DA2E4CCE} - C:\WINDOWS\Web\utiltcp.dll
O20 - Winlogon Notify: utiltcp - C:\WINDOWS\Web\utiltcp.dll

Now click fix checked and close HijackThis.

Step 5
Now double-click on the vundo.reg file that you saved on your desktop earlier and allow it to merge with the registry.

Double click on Killbox.exe and then check the delete on reboot button.

Enter the following filepath and filename into the Full path of file to delete box

C:\WINDOWS\Web\utiltcp.dll

Click the red circle with the white x and allow your computer to reboot.

After your computer has rebooted please run Hijackthis again and post a new HijackThis log.

I can't run the exe.

I think I found part of my problem. I think I ran the clean up act in regular and not safe mode. I think that deleted some of my settings in XP which is why nothing is running and my desktop is crazy whacked.

I think I may have to re-format.

Any other work arounds?

Let me check on why the procexp.exe wont run !!!

The rest of the fix is simple. Reformatting the PC would be a very drastic measure !!!!

Hi Mrfrosty,

Are you having any problems in running other exe files??? Let me know

Lets try this -

Open Windows Explorer (right click on Start and then click on explore).
Click on Tools ---> Folder Options ---> View Tab.

Uncheck the box next to - "Hide extension for known file types".

Now locate the file procexp.exe, which was unzipped.

Rename the file to procexp.com.

Now proceed with the fix I gave you.
