Hi kchristine7 and welcome to the Geeks to Go Forums.

My name is Trevuren and I will be helping you with your log.

1. If you haven't logged in go to Geeks to Go and do so. Then proceed to item a.

If you already have logged in, go directly to item a.

a. Click on My Controls at the top right hand corner of the window.
b. In the left hand column, click "View Topics"
c. If you click on the title of your post, you will be taken there

2. Also, while at the My Controls page, check the box to the right of your post and then scroll down.
.Where it says "unsubscribe" click the pull-down menu and select "immediate email notification"

3. Please DELETE your current HJT program from its present location.

4. Download and run the following HijackThis autoinstall program from Here HJT needs to be in its own folder so that the program itself isn't deleted by accident. Having the backups could be VITAL to restoring your system if something went wrong in the FIX process!

A. Close ALL windows except HJT

B. SCAN with HJT and SAVE LOG. (a notepad window will open with the log in it when you click Save Log) (Ctrl-A to'select all', Ctrl-C to 'copy')

C. POST the log in this thread using 'Add Reply' (Ctrl-V to 'paste')

DO NOT MAKE ANY CHANGES OR CLICK "FIX CHECKED" UNTIL WE CHECK THE LOG, AS MOST OF THE FILES ARE LEGIT AND VITAL TO THE FUNCTION OF YOUR COMPUTER

Regards,

Trevuren

You have a few problems here beside Aurora but this is where we will start.

1. Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite from: HERE

Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

2. Please download Nailfix.exe from HERE and Save it to your Desktop

* Create a Folder on your Desktop and name it NailFix
* Extract both files from NailFix.zip into this new folder

Please do NOT run it yet.

3. Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.
For additional help in booting into Safe Mode, see HERE

4. Once in Safe Mode, please open your new NailFix folder and double-click on Nailfix.cmd. Your desktop and icons will disappear and reappear, and a window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal.

5. Then please run Ewido, and run a full scan. Save the logfile from the scan.
6. Next run HijackThis, click Scan, and put a check mark beside:

F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe

Close all open windows except for HijackThis and click Fix Checked.

7. Restart your computer in normal mode and please post a new HijackThis log, as well as the log from the Ewido scan.

Regards,

Trevuren

okay...I think I did everything correctly. The only unexpected thing was it told me
that the file c:/explorer.cab/explorer.exe could not be removed because it was embedded in the archive "c;/explorer.cab" I didn't know if I should remove the entire archive so I said "No". Everything else went great. Here are the logs~

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order in which they are mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.

First we need to make all files and folders VISIBLE:

Go to start>control panel>folder options>view (tab)
*choose to "show hidden files and folders,"
*uncheck the "hide protected operating system files" and the "hide extensions for know file types" boxes.
*Close the window with ok
*All hidden files will now be visible

Please RUN HijackThis.
. Click the SCAN button to produce a log.

Place a check mark beside each one of the following items:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://websearch.drs...esearch.cgi?id=
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://websearch.drs...esearch.cgi?id=

O16 - DPF: NDWCab - http://www.neededware.com/ndw3.cab

Now with all the items selected, and all windows closed except for HJT, delete them by clicking the FIX checked button. Close the HijackThis window and Reboot Your System in Safe Mode

How to use the F8 method to Start Your Computer in Safe Mode

*Restart the computer.
*as soon as BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the Advanced Options menu appears.
*Use the arrow keys to select the Safe mode menu item
*press Enter.

Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files, and DELETE them (if they are present):

c:\windows\system32\vsluaa.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\wsys.exe
C:\WINDOWS\wupdt.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\jolvrfw.exe

Exit Explorer, and REBOOT BACK INTO NORMAL MODE

Finally, RUN Hijackthis again and produce a new HJT log. Post it in the forum so we can check how everytjhing looks now.

OKay, I did everything as you said. I could not find the file "O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [vgfkda] c:\windows\system32\vsluaa.exe r" in the Hijack log to check the box...and the last 4 files that you asked me to delete last i could not find. I assumed they were located in my "C" drive since they started with C: So I maually searched the files. I couldn't do a search for them in the "safemode" I am still getting the Aurora popups right now. Thank you for all that you are doing! I have faith lol!!! Here's the final scan.

additionally...I went to "restore to a past date" to get out of safe mode...does that make a difference? I notice that the files that you asked me to check and delete are still in the log. Should I try it again? Perhaps I didn't wait long enough before closing out Hijack...

Do not use System Restore unless directed to do so. You are just reinfecting yourself every time.

I will prepare another fix and do that one instead.

1. Download CWShredder here to its own folder.

* Update CWShredder

* Open CWShredder and click I AGREE
* Click Check For Update
* Close CWShredder

* Boot into Safe Mode:
Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

* Now run CWShredder. Click I Agree, then Fix and then Next, let it fix everything it asks about. Reboot your computer into normal windows.

2. 1. Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite Here
  • Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files.
  • Do NOT run a scan yet.
  • (if you already have the program, please just update)
2. Please download Nailfix from Here
Unzip it to the desktop but Do Not run it yet.

3. Please download System Security Suite from HERE. Unzip it into its own folder. Do not run it yet

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order in which they are mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.

Aye Yie Yie I'm such a jacka**!!! IM SORRY. I can believe I've been reversing everything all along. I had asked someone if that was okay and they said yes, obvously not knowing what I was talking about. Well...I barely read your message and immediatly went back and re-did everything you had me do before...except for the nailfix, which was no longer installed due to restoring I guess.. Geez I'm sorry because now I re-read your message and see that you were devising a new plan.
I did the Ewido scan..along with two more random virus cleaners from AOL and Windows..and then changed the folders to view all folders - then searched for the 4 folders specified with no result in finding them. Then I went to safe mode and scanned the Hijack and checked and cleaned the files you specified before. Then went back in to normal and ran the hijack scan below. I'm so sorry if this has caused even more work for you. Please let me know if you would like me to follow the instructions you most recently provided...or follow a new plan based on the new activity. I have not had an Aurora pop-up since I did this...but I'm not holding my breath...much thanks...
