Hello,

This is my first time on here, and I hope someone can help me. I added some security measures to my home laptop, and now when I try to log on to my Hotmail account, I get the following error:

I am running Sygate Personal Firewall Pro, Norton Anti-Virus 2003 Professional Edition, and a Meaya Popup Ad Filter. I've tried putting all the Hotmail and Passport information on the Popup Filter's "allowed" list, and I've tried disabling these programs altogether to no avail.

I am not allowed to use the Internet at work and I don't know what to do!

it could be as simple as hotmail being unavailable at the time...they get alot of flow. try again after a few minutes. attempt a refresh. see if you can connect from another computer. if you have the ability attempt to connect with your laptop using the connection of that other computer (if they use dial-up and you have a modem in your laptop then just use their connection settings)

Well, this had been going on for over a month now. I've tried to get on many, many different times, both night and day. I can log on on any other computer I use. I just went over to a friend's apartment and tried there, and it worked fine. Thank you for your advice anyway. Something else is wrong.

I would recomend uninstalling the software that seemed to start the problem.

These are all high-quality, first rate programs, though. I can't believe that there isn't some adjustment I could make in one of them to simply access my email account I've had for almost a decade.

The quality of the program is not at question. It, like any program can go bad or have settings changed that mess other things up. We need to determine if these apps are the cause.
