I'm at my grandmother's house and her computer screen is very dark. Pictures don't show up and when I try to play games I can't see anything.

The brightness and contrast are turned all the way up. I have no idea what to try next.

:tazz:

Thanks in advance,
logan11

Could be the monitor is going bad. If you tried adjusting the controls on the monitor and it does not change, try another monitor.

Next time you go to her house take your monitor and try it. If it works OK you'll know what the problem is.

its been like this ever since she got it.

and she lives 9 hours away so it's not like i can just put my monitor in the car and come to her house to test it :tazz: we come down here for a month in the summer

but anyway, is it possibly a setting that it was preset when they got it? and the screen isn't so dark that you can't see anything, but things such as my avatar i can barely see

thanks again,
logan11

Ok I talked to the guys at Gateway and they said my video card isn't compatible with XP, only 98 and 2000...

so now my question is....

can I trick it into thinking I'm on '98?

:-P

ok so i double clicked it, when into driver, pressed update driver, and told it to update and it said it could not find a better match than what I have installed.

:tazz:

if it;s true what the people at gateway said, then there HAS to be a fix somewhere. I mean, I can't be the only person in the world that bought this computer then switched it from '98 to XP
