Hello and welcome to Geeks to Go! :tazz: I'm kool808 and I will be helping you today.

I am working on your log. As soon as I made a good fix for this, I will post a reply. Thank you for your patience.

It is highly recommended that you install your HijackThis Tool in a safe location where you can easily find them. It is suggested you place them in C:\HJT, that way it could create backups necessary for future restore.

It is highly recommended that you install your HijackThis Tool in a safe location where you can easily find them. It is suggested you place them in C:\HJT, that way it could create backups necessary for future restore.
====================================
Please Download the following tools to assist us in removing this infection!
  • Download WinPFind
    • Right Click the Zip Folder and Select "Extract All"
    • Extract it somewhere you will remember like the Desktop
    • Dont do anything with it yet!
  • Download Track qoo
    • Save it somewhere you will remember like the Desktop
Reboot into Safe Mode
Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

Doubleclick WinPFind.exe
  • Click "Start Scan"
  • It will scan the entire System, so please be patient!
  • Once the Scan is Complete
  • Go to the WinPFind folder
  • Locate WinPFind.txt
  • Place those results in the next post!
Reboot back to Normal Mode!

Double Click on "Track qoo.vbs"

Note - If you Antivirus has Script Blocking, you will get a Pop Up Windows asking you what to do. Allow this Entire Script to Run, its harmless!

Wait a few seconds and a notepad page will pop up, Copy & Paste those results and place them in the next post along with the results of WinPFind!

Thank you for getting back to me! I was unable to download "Track qoo" ... so I am only posting the results from WinPFind.

WARNING: not all files found by this scanner are bad. Consult with a knowledgable person before proceeding.

If you see a message in the titlebar saying "not responding" you can ignore it. Windows is throwing this message up even though the program is still running. As long as the hard disk is working then the program is running.

We need to do this again. I need the Track qoo list.

I was able to download Track qoo from another Geeks to go forum ... So, here are both log files

WARNING: not all files found by this scanner are bad. Consult with a knowledgable person before proceeding.

If you see a message in the titlebar saying "not responding" you can ignore it. Windows is throwing this message up even though the program is still running. As long as the hard disk is working then the program is running.

This will be my first encounter with the QooLogic infection. Help me so I can also help you.

Please SAVE THIS PAGE or secure a PRINT COPY of the instructions for reference.
============================================
Be sure to View Hidden and System Files.

Please locate this file C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\conres.cpl
Right-Click on the file then choose properties
Write down on a paper or notepad all the properties it contains then include it along with the other posts.

1.) Place a shortcut to Panda ActiveScan on your desktop. Do NOT run it yet.

2.) Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite 3.5 here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/

Please read Ewido Setup Instructions
Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

3.) Download Pocket KillBox from here. There is a Direct Download and a description of what the Program does inside this link.

4.) Please open Notepad, and copy/paste the code in the box below into a new text file. Save it as KillQoo.reg (set Filetype to "All Files") and save it on your Desktop.

REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\*\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\sqykytxk]

[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{329cf3ac-f23e-48eb-bc66-57c58510fe6b}]

[HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\Explorer\Run]
"qonlna.exe"=-

Open Pocket Killbox and Copy & Paste the entries below into the "Full Path of File to Delete"

C:\WINDOWS\icont.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\PSof1.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\rbaka.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\qonlna.exe

As you Paste each entry into Killbox,place a tick by any of these Selections available

"Delete on Reboot"
"Unregister .dll before Deleting"

Click the Red Circle with the White X in the Middle to Delete!

Restart in Safe Mode and Run those files through Killbox once more to be sure nothing survived.

This time place a tick by any of these selections available

"Standard File Kill"
"End Explorer Shell while Killing File"
"Unregister .dll before Deleting"

Now Locate and DoubleClick KillQoo.reg-> Allow it to merge into the Registry!

Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KavSvc] C:\WINDOWS\system32\lmauan.exe reg_run

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked.

Run Ewido:
  • Click on scanner
  • Click Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • During the scan it will prompt you to clean files, click OK
  • When it asks if you want to clean the first file, put a check in the lower left corner of the box that says "Perform action on all infections" then choose clean and click OK.
  • When the scan is finished, click the Save report button at the bottom of the screen.
  • Save the report to your desktop
Close Ewido

Be sure to View Hidden and System Files.

Through Windows Explorer, delete the following folder(s) or files(s) if they exist (in bold):
  • C:\WINDOWS\system32\lmauan.exe
Finally, Empty Recycle Bin

Restart back in Normal Mode click the Panda ActiveScan shortcut, then do a full system scan. Make sure the autoclean box is checked!
Save the scan log and post it along with a fresh HijackThis log! together with the information of conres.cpl

================================================
Ok looking good now!

A.) If you have not already installed Ad-Aware SE 1.06, follow these download and setup instructions, otherwise, check for updates:
Ad-Aware SE Setup
Do NOT run the scan yet!

B.) Please download [ Spybot Search & Destroy 1.4 ].

1. Install Spybot S&D, accepting the Default Settings
2. In the Menu Bar at the top of the Spybot window you will see 'Mode'. Make certain that 'default mode' has a check mark beside it.
3. Close ALL windows except Spybot S&D
4. Click the button to ‘Search for Updates’ then download and install the Updates.
5. Once the update is complete, do NOT run the scans yet.
6. Close Spybot S&D

Reboot in SAFE MODE. (How to boot in Safe Mode...)
================================================

A.) Open Ad-aware and do a full scan. Remove all it finds. Save a report / log.

B.)
1. Open Spybot, next click the button ‘Check for Problems'
2. When Spybot is complete, it will be showing ‘RED’ entries bold 'Black' Entries and ‘GREEN’ entries in the window
3. Make certain there is a check mark beside all of the RED entries ONLY.
4. Choose ‘Fix Selected Problems’ and allow Spybot to fix the RED entries. Save a report / log.
5. Close Spybot S&D

We will make sure the Qoologic infection did not return.

C.) Doubleclick WinPFind.exe again
  • Click "Start Scan"
  • It will scan the entire System, so please be patient!
  • Once the Scan is Complete
  • Go to the WinPFind folder
  • Locate WinPFind.txt
  • Place those results in the next post!
==================================================
Reboot back to Normal Mode!

Double Click on "Track qoo.vbs" again

Note - If you Antivirus has Script Blocking, you will get a Pop Up Windows asking you what to do. Allow this Entire Script to Run, its harmless!

Wait a few seconds and a notepad page will pop up, Copy & Paste those results and place them in the next post along with the results of WinPFind!

THINGS TO POST: (Please indicate a title to separate each logs, use the add reply if each logs would be too long.)

Spybot S&D --> no problems found!

Hope this looks good! I have one more question for you though -- Ewido takes up my CPU usage to 100% when the shield is active ... is it supposed to do that?

Thanks again,
Allison

Great job, atome! Nicely done, your log is now much better. Let us have another inspection because this infection loves to rehide itself in other places of your windows.

Completely unistall Ewido for the moment, however we will be needing it later.
I think you have an old version of Ad-Aware, the latest is the Ad-Aware 1.06r

Please SAVE THIS PAGE or secure a PRINT COPY of the instructions for reference.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

You are advised to temporarily DISABLE the following Protection Programs, if they are running:

  • Spyware Guard
(Note: We will re-ENABLE them later after your system is all clean and malware free.)

++++++++ N O T I C E ++++++++

This will likely be a few step process in removing the malware that has infected your system.  I encourage you to stick with it and follow my directions as closely as possible so as to avoid complicating the problem further. Trust me!

DO NOT RUN THE SCANS YET. WE WILL RUN THEM LATER.
1.) Please Download the stand-alone version of CoolWebShredder

Update CWShredder
  • Open CWShredder and click I AGREE
  • Click Check For Update
  • Close CWShredder
2.) Download Cleanup.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

3.) Click HERE to download Pocket Killbox by Option^Explicit. Extract it from the zip file then double-click Killbox.exe to run it.

Select "Delete on Reboot".

Please copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C

C:\WINDOWS\system32\datadx.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\alswsjh.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\rbaka.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\qldf.bin
C:\WINDOWS\icont.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\PSof1.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\qonlna.exe

Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard".

Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "No" at the Pending Operations prompt.

If your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually.

Restart in SAFE MODE and Run those files through Killbox once more to be sure nothing survived.

This time place a tick by any of these selections available

"Standard File Kill"
"End Explorer Shell while Killing File"
"Unregister .dll before Deleting"

If you receive a message such as: "Component 'MsComCtl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid." when trying to run TheKillbox, click here to download and run missingfilesetup.exe. Then try TheKillbox again.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Reboot in NORMAL MODE.

1.) Go to this website http://virusscan.jotti.org/ , browse for C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\conres.cpl then submit it for analysis. Save the result.

2.) Reboot into Safe Mode
Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

3.) Now run CWShredder. Click I Agree, then Fix and then Next, let it fix everything it asks about.

Doubleclick WinPFind.exe
  • Click "Start Scan"
  • It will scan the entire System, so please be patient!
  • Once the Scan is Complete
  • Go to the WinPFind folder
  • Locate WinPFind.txt
  • Place those results in the next post!
4.) Now run CleanUp!. Click CleanUp and allow it to delete all the temporary files. Reboot your computer into normal windows.

Double Click on "Track qoo.vbs"

Note - If you Antivirus has Script Blocking, you will get a Pop Up Windows asking you what to do. Allow this Entire Script to Run, its harmless!

I was unable to locate all the files I was told to delete in Killbox in Safe mode ... except C:\WINDOWS\system32\qldf.bin

System is running fine now ... no annoying pop-ups (so far, so good)

See anything else??

Thanks,
Allison

Very good job! Nicely done Allison!

Maybe, I will be able to post a reply tonight or tomorrow (GMT Time Zone) of my analysis. We are not done yet, but almost there just hang up.

Some important business to do... :tazz:

Everything is looking great now! Just to make sure they are all gone let us have this inspection scans.

Please SAVE THIS PAGE or secure a PRINT COPY of the instructions for reference.

Reboot in SAFE MODE. (How to boot in Safe Mode...)

Be sure to View Hidden and System Files.

Through Windows Explorer, delete the following folder(s) or files(s) if they exist (in bold):
  • C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\conres.cpl
Finally, Empty Recycle Bin
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Reboot in NORMAL MODE.

Quite often Windows O/S's may not be able to see hidden DLL files that may be spyware related. Option^Explicit has come up with a way to scan any version of Windows for these files.
  • Please download dllcompare (A scanner to locate hidden DLL files) from either of the following locations:
  • When you execute dllcompare.exe, by default the c:\windows\system32 is selected. This can be changed to scan you entire computer for any file type - Simply select the path and check off the box labelled "Include SubDirectories"
  • Click on "Locate.com" and allow the scan to complete.
  • After the scan has finished click on "Compare" to scan for the files that Windows does not see. This step will take a few minutes to run.
  • If the box at the bottom of the screen contains any files, these are the ones that are hidden - Click on "Make a Log of what was Found".
  • When prompted to "View Log File" click on "Yes".
  • Notepad will open with the log file contents.
  • In Notepad, click on "Edit" => "Select All" => "Edit" = "Copy" and post the contents as a reply to this message.
There are no function in the program to alter the O/S as it is just a scanner at this point.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Please download RootKitRevealer from here:
http://www.sysinternals.com/files/rootkitrevealer.zip
Unzip it to the desktop, run it, and click Scan. This will generate a log file; please post the entire contents of the log file here for me to see.
