I went through all of your steps on the "you must read this before posting hijackthis log" page, up until having to download HijackThis. Unfortunately whenever I try to download it I get 2 error messages-- "access denied" and "virus detected by mcafee." I ran mcafee just in case, and I don't have a virus. I read that it sees hijackthis as a worm... how can I download hijackthis so i can get rid of Aurora?? I can't stand these popups anymore!

the problem is, updating mcafee costs money that i don't really want to spend... is there any way to disable it so i can download HJT? or a way to update without spending $35?

You can try having a bud download HJT for you.

Then you rename to anything you want.

And install it under the new name.

That has worked for some.

I think I may just spring for mcafee, and I'll let you know if I'm successful with the HJT download.

This morning though I got the weirdest pop-up from Aurora ever. It said...

Malicious .DLL file(s) has/have disrupted the LSP chain on your computer. This can be seen by the (010) entry(ies) in your HJT log. We must fix this problem as a priority.

1. Backup the registry by going to Start>Run> and type ‘regedit’ without the quotes. Then on the file menu choose ‘export’ in XP.

2. Download the LSPfix.txt and read the readme file.

3. Download LSPfix.zip or LSPfix.exe

4. Close all windows except LSPfix

5. Launch LSPfix.zip and install to its own folder, then click on LSPfix.exe. Or click on LSPfix.exe and it will launch the program.

6. Put a check mark in the box “I know what I am doing”

7. Click ‘Finish’

7. REBOOT to complete the task.

8. Now RUN HJT, click Scan and POST a new log file in this thread using “Add Reply”.

1. We want to stop, disable and delete an added service (023)

A. To stop a service and set to 'disabled'

• Go to Start > Run and type in Services.msc then click OK
  
• Click the Extended tab.
  
• Scroll down until you find the service.
  ===>Service: System Startup Service (SvcProc)
  
• Click once on the service to highlight it.
  
• Click Stop
  
• Right-Click on the service.
  
• Click on 'Properties'
  
• Select the 'General' tab
  
• Click the Arrow-down tab on the right-hand side on the 'Start-up Type' box
  
• From the drop-down menu, click on 'Disabled'
  
• Click the 'Apply' tab, then click 'OK'

The service is now stopped and disabled.


2. Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order in which they are mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.

First we need to make all files and folders VISIBLE:

Go to start>control panel>folder options>view (tab)
*choose to "show hidden files and folders,"
*uncheck the "hide protected operating system files" and the "hide extensions for know file types" boxes.
*Close the window with ok
*All hidden files will now be visible

Please RUN HijackThis.
. Click the SCAN button to produce a log.

5. REBOOT into SAFE MODE

*as soon as BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the Advanced Options menu appears.
*Use the arrow keys to select the Safe mode menu item
*press Enter.
6. Using Windows Explorer, locate and DELETE the following files/folders (with all their content) (if they are still present):

7. REBOOT back into Normal Mode

I'm trying to follow the instructions, but ===>Service: System Startup Service (SvcProc) isn't running in the services.msc. I couldn't "stop" it, there was only a "start" option. But I disabled it anyway. However, when I got down to clicking its checkbox in HJT (O23), it wasn't there. Then when I typed in [COLOR... etc, it didn't recognize it as existing. help?

That's a BB typo. Forget the color stuff. Just type SvcProc

Here is the latest log... "qcuhk.dll" wasn't there in safe mode, and the searches for "cscpdmoe.exe" and "comwid.exe" came up blank, but they're still in the logfile... but svcproc and viewpoint were deleted successfully, and I'm assuming qcihk.dll was too.

First we need to make all files and folders VISIBLE:

Go to start>control panel>folder options>view (tab)
*choose to "show hidden files and folders,"
*uncheck the "hide protected operating system files" and the "hide extensions for know file types" boxes.
*Close the window with ok
*All hidden files will now be visible

Please RUN HijackThis.
. Click the SCAN button to produce a log.

Place a check mark beside each one of the following items:

Now with all the items selected, and all windows closed except for HJT, delete them by clicking the FIX checked button. Close the HijackThis window and Reboot Your System in Safe Mode

How to use the F8 method to Start Your Computer in Safe Mode

*Restart the computer.
*as soon as BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the Advanced Options menu appears.
*Use the arrow keys to select the Safe mode menu item
*press Enter.


Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files, and DELETE them (if they are present):

C:\WINDOWS\System32\qcihk.dll
cscpdmoe.exe<===You will have to SEARCH for this one
comwid.exe<=====You will have to SEARCH for this one too


Exit Explorer, and REBOOT BACK INTO NORMAL MODE

Finally, RUN Hijackthis again and produce a new HJT log. Post it in the forum so we can check how everytjhing looks now.
