Hi Christa,

Please download and save the attached file on your desktop.

Unzip and extract the files from the zip file. Double click on the extracted file - RegSrch.vbs. Type Firewall in the pop up box and hit enter.

This tool will search your Registry for the key word. Your anti-virus may throw up a warning that a script is running. Let it run.

It will take time to search your registry. Be patient. It will open a log file. Copy the content so that file here in your next reply.

Not sure what all of this is. I did unstall Norton a few months ago. When I first started having the printer problems, the initial error I was recieving was a symantec /s32/event1dll. error. I searched this site for removal / repair. The error stopped, only to be proceded by the new error... specified print error. Thanks again for helping.

Hi Christa,

Copy the following in a new text file in Notepad. Save the file as firewall.reg (make sure the Save as Type is set as All Files) -

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\WindowsFirewall\DomainProfile]
"EnableFirewall"=dword:00000001

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\WindowsFirewall\StandardProfile]
"EnableFirewall"=dword:00000001

Double click on firewall.reg and let it merge with your registry.

Reboot the PC.

Click on Start ----> Settings ----> Control Panel -----> Windows Firewall. Make sure the box next to On (Recommended) is checked.

Let me know how it goes !!!!

Yeah its turned on. ;) Thank You. But the circle is grayed out (not clickable) where it say's ON. As well as the off tab. The only box that is not grayed out is the dont allow exceptions.
What should be marked under the exceptions tab. The first two are currently checked (file n printer sharing & remote assistance)
Any ideas about the printer driver issue. :tazz:
Thank You again. ;)

Hi Christa,

Lets try this one more time -

Double click on the extracted file - RegSrch.vbs. Type Firewall in the pop up box and hit enter.

This tool will search your Registry for the key word. Your anti-virus may throw up a warning that a script is running. Let it run.

It will take time to search your registry. Be patient. It will open a log file. Copy the content so that file here in your next reply.

REGEDIT4

; Registry search results for string "VDD" 7/15/2005 1:40:21 PM

; NOTE: This file will be deleted when you close WordPad.
; You must manually save this file to a new location if you want to refer to it again later.
; (If you save the file with a .reg extension, you can use it to restore any Registry changes you make to these values.)

Uninstall the printer.

Please do the following:
1. Start Registry Editor (Regedit.exe). Click on Start ----> Run. Type regedit and hit enter.

Create a backup of your exiting Registry settings. Click on My Computer in the regedit window. Then click on File ----> Export in the main toolbar. This will create a backup file. In case you have any issues with your PC. You can locate this backup reg file and then double click on it and merge it with your Registry.

2. Locate and select the following value:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\VirtualDeviceDrivers\VDD
3. On the Edit menu, click Delete.
4. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click Multi-string Value.
5. Type VDD in the Value Name box, and then press ENTER.
6. Quit Registry Editor.

Reinstall the printer.

Let me know how it goes !!!

OK, So I did as asked, and still NO LUCK :-( I'm now getting this error spooler SubSystem App. then another screen popped up Cannot Install this hardware Lexmark Z700-P700 And this one... Results No Printer attached.
I'm curious how I get rid of these from the above regedit I poster earlier
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Symantec\Symevent\VDD]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Symantec\Symevent\VDD\SymNetDrv]
Arent these things part of Norton. ? I did unstall this awhile ago, but dont know if thats when the printer and other problems started.
Thanks again for the help.
