Hi Christa,

I cant believe that you restored the PC to factory state and have viruses on it !!!

Maybe you picked it up in the short period of time after you restored the settings and were looking for Windows updates.

Please visit this page - http://www.microsoft...efault.mspx#run

and run the tool.

Click on Start ----> Run. Type Services.msc and hit enter. In the right hand pane locate the item - lsass. Right click on it and click on Properties. In the STartup Type, choose the option Disable.
Repeat the process with the item - Mouse Click Monitor.

Run Hijack This and click on scan. The following items need to be fixed -

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Services] C:\WINDOWS\csrss.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [cpgnmh] C:\WINDOWS\cpgnmh.exe

Close all windows other than Hijack This. Check the boxes next to above items and click on Fix checked.

Restart the PC in Safe Mode (repeatedly tap the F8 key when the PC is starting up).

Open Windows Explorer (right click on Start and then click on explore). Locate and delete the following folders and files -

C:\WINDOWS\csrss.exe
C:\WINDOWS\lsass.exe
C:\WINDOWS\cpgnmh.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\mousecm.exe

Take care with the first two files. There are same named files in C:\Windows\System32 folder which are genuine and critical files !!!!!!!

Reboot the PC in Normal Mode.

Please visit Panda and do an online scan. Save the scan report.

Run Hijack This and post a fresh HJT log along with Panda scan report.

This is the kind of lick I've been having with my computer lately. ;) As you can see it did not remove everything it found. ;) Would the below unfixed items be the reason I'm not able to update and run some programs ?? :tazz: Thanks again.

OK so another thing I forgot to tell you that I meant to mention was that when I was in safe mode the last three items...
C:\WINDOWS\lsass.exe
C:\WINDOWS\cpgnmh.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\mousecm.exe
were not there. Did hijackthis take care of them already?
There was something under the system32 with the name of mouse, but not mousecm
Sorry for the multiple posts.

Hi Christa,

In case you have any issues at any stage of the fix, make a note of it. Continue with the rest of the fix. Complete it and then post the scan reports / logs for me to see. At that time let me know any observations you had.

Please do the following -

Please download and install a firewalll from - Sygate Personal Firewall.

Run Hijack This and click on scan. The following items need to be fixed -

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [cpgnmh] C:\WINDOWS\cpgnmh.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Services] C:\WINDOWS\csrss.exe

Close all windows other than Hijack This. Check the boxes next to above items and click on Fix checked.

Make sure the system and hidden files are visible. For more info please read this page

Reboot the PC in Safe Mode.

Open Windows Explorer (right click on Start and then click on explore). Locate and delete the following folders and files -

C:\WINDOWS\cpgnmh.exe
C:\WINDOWS\csrss.exe

Reboot the PC in Normal Mode.

Please visit Panda and do an online scan. Save the scan report.

Run Hijack This and post a fresh HJT log along with Panda scan report.

When is safe mode, again I could not find the files under windows. I even double checked when in safe mode to show all system and hidden files as per the above lisk suggested, not there.
Removed the 2 items from HJT then did panda scan.

Hi Christa,

I suggest that you delete the following file -

C:\sd934k.exe

It seems to have some infections in it !!!!!

Please go to Post 4 in this same topic and then post back the log. I may suggest some changes to you. Before you do that download Sygate Firewall and install it.

I did install sygate as per your recomendation earlier. Still wondering why windows firewall wont enable.

Deleted that file.

I removed that file and ran regzip again. Here is the new post. Thanks again.

Hi Christa,

Did you ever go through the screening process at the Airport ??? Imagine there were two people intent on making sure that were not carrying any restricted items through !!! There would be so much confusion between them with their hands trying to reach into the same pocket etc etc.

It is an apt analogy when you have more than one anti-virus software and firewall. Multiple such programs can conflict with each other and severely hamper the performance of your PC.

Most of the third party firewalls automatically disable Windows Firewall when they get installed. This seems to have happened in your case !!! And it is good for your PC !!!!

Do you have any other issues with your PC ?????

So I'm doing something right by using sygate instead of windows firewall ?? I do know that when I initally set up the Westell versalink modem that it has some sort of Firewall protection as well, no conflicting issues there ?
Does the HJT log look clean ??

I believe everything seems to be in normal running order, with the exception of explorer shutting down on occasion. Keep getting the screen windows has encountered an error and needs to close etc... It's never with one particular site. DSL is running very very slow, but I'll troubleshoot that wih Verizon Tech Support when I find time to sit on the phone for a few hours.

Thanks so much for your patience and support, it is / was greatly appericated. :tazz:
