Hi

I tried all steps in your guide. My homepage keeps reverting to some random thing, and my desktop background has become totally white, though when I reboot my computer the original image flashes up briefly. :tazz:

I appreciate your help...

PS: I am fairly computer illiterate so try to keep it simple for me! Thank you!

Welcome to GeeksToGo :tazz: My name is Tom and I will be helping you with your problems today. I have reviewed your log and there are some things we need to take care of. Also I need you to print a copy of this post so you can use it later in the fix.

[*]Please set your system to show
all files; please see here if you're unsure how to do this.

[*]Press Control-Alt-Del to enter the Task Manager.

Click on the Processes tab and end the following processes:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\paytime.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\paytime.exe

Exit the Task Manager when finished.

[*]Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following, making sure you get them all and not any others by mistake:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [DDCM] "C:\Program Files\WildTangent\DDC\DDCManager\DDCMan.exe" -Background
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [DDCActiveMenu] "C:\Program Files\WildTangent\DDC\ActiveMenu\DDCActiveMenu.exe" -boot
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [PayTime] C:\WINDOWS\System32\paytime.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [PayTime] C:\WINDOWS\System32\paytime.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Windows installer] C:\winstall.exe
O4 - Global Startup: hp center.lnk = C:\Program Files\hp center\137903\Program\BackWeb-137903.exe
O15 - Trusted Zone: *.skoobidoo.com (HKLM)
O15 - Trusted Zone: *.slotchbar.com (HKLM)
O15 - Trusted Zone: *.windupdates.com (HKLM)

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

[*]Reboot into Safe Mode: please see here if you are not sure how to do this.

Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders, and delete them:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\paytime.exe
C:\Program Files\WildTangent\DDC\DDCManager\DDCMan.exe
C:\Program Files\WildTangent\DDC\ActiveMenu\DDCActiveMenu.exe
C:\winstall.exe
C:\Program Files\hp center\137903\Program\BackWeb-137903.exe

Exit Explorer, and reboot as normal afterwards.

Post back a fresh HijackThis log and we will take another look.

Hi Tom

First of all thanks for your help, you have already gotten rid of the annoying "windows installer" window that kept popping up anytime I did anything.

My antivirus picked up the paytime file and deleted it automatically after i posted my hijackthis log and it doesn't seem to exist anymore.

I followed all your steps, but when i rebooted in safe mode I couldn't find any of the files or folders to delete, either using the search function, or manually locating them. I assume this means they were removed completely by my hijackthis scan?

The desktop background is still white for now, perhaps you can still help me.

Thanks again, I really appreciate your time.

-Bill

OK Lets try this.

You may wish to print out a copy of these instructions to follow while you complete this procedure.

Please save Hijack This in a permanent folder (i.e. C:\HJT). This ensures backups are saved and accessible.

Please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an X in the boxes, only next to these following items, then click fix checked.

Reboot your PC.

If you would please, rescan with HijackThis and post a fresh log in this same topic, and let us know how your system's working. :)ke:

OK lets rtry to fix your desktop.

Please right-click: HERE and go to Save As (in Internet Explorer it's "Save Target As") in order to download smitfraud reg file. Save it to your desktop.

Locate "smitfraud.reg" on your desktop and double-click it. When asked if you want to merge with the registry, click YES. Wait for the "merged successfully" prompt then follow the rest of the instructions below.

After this completes please reboot and post another HiJackThis log here is this thread.

Hi,

all that worked fine, computers running pretty nicely...but i think I picked up another one. There is an icon popping up, a red circle with a white cross inside telling me i have spyware. It has disabled my taskmanager!! Also, for a long time I have had a window popping up saying 'windows installer' everytime I do anything...say, put a cd in the drive. I don't think thats normal, maybe you could help.

Thanks!!!!!
