Hello ;) I'm a new user, but have come here and recieved solutions to problems i've had several times before. Thank you

However, just recently, my computer began showing problems one after the other at an alarming rate and startup has become so slow all of a sudden but i'm pretty sure it has little to do with the problems i have installed... Finally decided to get the system a complete lookover from you kind folks.

1. Bloodhound.w32.ep - detected by Norton Antivirus for about a week now and norton was unable to repair the file. other details from norton = object name: c:\windows\system32\wininet.dll as to what this virus is doing to my computer i cannot say for sure...

2. I see many others on the forum with this one: trojan-spy.html.smitfraud.c. Blue screen comes up at startup and alerts of a "fatal error that occured in IE".

3. Background warning: The desktop background is covered by a file (desktop.html) that says WARNING and urges removal of spyware. I thought i solved this one using the simple method someone else proposed in this forum (which was to go to display and delete "security" from the web tab. however, the problem came back in a few days, and THIS TIME going into Display only shows me 2 tabs. The appearance tabs are gone and i have no way to choose a desktop background - the option is removed even from the control panel.

4. svphost.exe: Finally, a windows message box pops up twice early early on during startup saying that windows could not find svphost.exe.

I am running Windows XP, I did all the scans listed at the starting page, as well as ewido and trend housecall (housecall, by the way, found nearly 20 problems but was only able to delete 4...). The windows update page does not even load or show up for me when i click it to scan my system for needed updates, so i could not get that.

THanks for your time!! :tazz: Here is the HJT log and ewido's log:

Apparently I have one other problem. (thought i'd add it now, so i could take care of that too while i'm at it)

Blank black boxes pop up from time to time with a greyish underscore-like thing flashing randomly around the blank screen. The box looks like one in which you can type stuff, but you can't. Seems to have something to do with C:\windows\system32\ntvdm.exe. I don't believe it's an ad.....

Angeline:

I should have seen this the first time you posted, but I need you to apply Service Pack 1a for Windows XP. Without this update, you're wide open to re-infection, and we're both just wasting our time.
Apply the update, reboot, and post a fresh Hijack This log.

hmm..

An error message comes up and says that the file c:\windows\system32\wininet.dll is open or in use. I closed everything, but the same message appears.

Yes, I run the setup and shortly after inspecting my configuration and creating third party driver, the error message comes up. I tried it a few times with the asme result.

go to start>>run>>and type in msconfig

See if it's under the start-up tab. If it is, uncheck it.
