For many months now my computer will either freeze and i need to reboot or it shuts down on its own and i have to reboot many times to get it up again, sometimes to no avail. I have scanned with Adaware and PC Cillian to find nothing.Sometimes it wont even let me reboot in " Safe Mode". Does it randomly. Any suggestions?????? Have already backed up to disk anything important.

Does it give you any error messages when it locks up or shuts down? Have you tried stuff like doing a system restore or doing a repair install? Since it's been months already, you might just completely reinstall windows.

Hey Ruckus, No it just shuts down and then reboots and sometimes fails and then the black screen comes up with the options of modes for me to reboot in. Sometimes it boots up right away others it takes several times. Went in today to try and clean things up a bit and so far no crashes today. Will post log soon.

We can definitely help you, but first you need to help us. The first step in this process is to apply Service Pack 1a for Windows XP. Without this update, you're wide open to re-infection, and we're both just wasting our time.
Apply the update, reboot, and post a fresh Hijack This log.

Some hijacks interfere with the installation of Service Pack 2, so we'll hold of for now. When we're finished cleaning your computer we highly recommend installing SP2. Click here: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/.
Here is a direct link to download Service Pack 1 from Microsoft.
http://www.microsoft...p1/default.mspx
If you use this you will need to go back to the above "Windows Updates" link and get new updates for Service Pack 1.

-or-
It's a very large download, so if you're on dial-up, order a free CD here:
http://www.microsoft...default810.mspx

You may wish to print out a copy of these instructions to follow while you complete this procedure.

Please save Hijack This in a permanent folder (i.e. C:\HJT). This ensures backups are saved and accessible.

Please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an X in the boxes, only next to these following items, then click fix checked.

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {00041A26-7033-432C-94C7-6371DE343822} - (no file)
O3 - Toolbar: &Google - {2318C2B1-4965-11d4-9B18-009027A5CD4F} - C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\googlenav.dll (file missing)

Reboot.

Your log looks clean to me. Have you ever tried a repair install of windows to try and fix the problem? Try this. Click Start, Run, type "sfc.exe /scannow" without the quotes. Make sure the XP installation cd is in the drive when you run this file. This will check all your system files and compare them to the ones on the disk and replace any that are missing or corrupt.

If you do a repair install you won't lose any saved data. Just boot with the cd in and at the setup screen choose to Install Windows XP. Then press F8 to accept the EULA. Next press R for a repair install. I believe you will have download service pack 1 and all updates again though. No big deal if it works right?

If you do a repair install you won't lose any saved data.  Just boot with the cd in and at the setup screen choose to Install Windows XP.  Then press F8 to accept the EULA.  Next press R for a repair install.  I believe you will have download service pack 1 and all updates again though.  No big deal if it works right?
