My mother recieved a pop-up and clicked to make it go away. She started downloading Winfixer and then stopped the process. Everytime she starts her computer she gets a box telling her she needs to finish the download. She also has been getting a ton of pop-ups. I ran adaware and it found something but could not remove a winnt\system32\r?gsvr32.exe file. I was able to run hijackthis and removed the file. She continues to get the download box on start up and lots of popups. I have read up on this and have done all the steps you have suggested others do. Still no luck. Here is her HijackThis log:

Still need help. Her pop-ups have calmed down but she still gets the box to complete the download (installer) everytime at start-up.

She started downloading Winfixer and then stopped the process.

Is it in add/remove programs? Can she remove it? It also has an uninstaller. Can you get to that even though you didn't finish the download?

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

Above is the log you requested. Winfixer is not in her add/remove nor is it listed in programs. I ran all kinds of programs to detect it and removed what I could. What she gets on start up is a box saying something like Winfixer has not finished downloading - please click continue to finish installing. This box has one button (continue) and a close-out X in the corner. She has been clicking the X. Then her desktop will finish loading. I no don't see an uninstaller. Doing a seach for all files/folders on Winfixer comes up with nothing. She had been getting a ton of pop-ups - I was able to delete enough to stop those but not enough to get rid of the installer box.

go to start>>run>> and type in msconfig

Go to the start tab and look for winfixer. Uncheck it.

msconfig gave me an error saying one of it's componants is missing. So I found it in control panel computer management/start up programs. This is the log - no winfixer found under start up.
