Anyone –
I’m so stuck. Am “babysitting” Trojan-Spy.HTML.smitfraud.c virus (or possibly Bloodhound.w32.ep or Trojan.DesktopHijackB) from those morally upstanding desktop hijackers PSGuard.com. (And there’s no way I’m going to pay greedy cowards for a software fix for a computer THEY invaded. Punks. People with entitlement issues (among other neurosis) ruin the world. Anyway, causes aside…
My OS told me the trojan was smitfraud (app name in taskmanager is Intel32) with “warning” wallpaper. It keeps an icon in my system tray, hijacks my startpage, keeps me from accessing my email and causes random pop-ups trying to sell me hastily discounted plane tickets to Aruba every 15 minutes. (I do have my desktop for some reason).
What I did:
- Ran Spybot app (it seemed to find the files oleadm32.dll, uninstlU.exe and related, but the virus still reloaded at reboot). Because of the filenames, I believe I have the latest version of the virus.
- Ran Norton 2004 (it found no infected files).
- Couldn’t run Ewido as I have ME.
- Ran Trojan Remover 6.4.1 (found no new infected files).
- Followed procedure at http://www.wildersse...ead/php?t=75890 (SecurityIGuard, Virtual Maid or Search Maid weren’t in my tskmngr. list; I did everything and downloaded everything and ran them (including Killbox, smitfraud.reg registry file, Hoster, replacement DelDomains.inf (couldn't install, got message "a device attached to the system is not functioning"). Ran Panda's ActiveScan 5.03.00 and Trendmicro's Housecall and couldn’t download components as even on the lowest security settings in every zone, they won't let me run Active X controls on the page (??). I also ran recommended utility CleanUp!40 app and my McAfee cleaner app too).
- I then tried to add/remove “Intel32” app, which I think is the virus, in cntrl. panel, but it wouldn’t let me.
- Next, I downloaded/ran Hijackthis: only one smitfraud file I had was in log. I “checked” it for deletion, rebooted, and was still infected.
- Followed procedure at http://www.bullguard...Error-in-IE-has occurr_16312.html and manually deleted the only file that they recommended to delete in Hijackthis list, “taskmon.exe”. Rebooted and was still infected.
- Ran CWShredder. Still infected.
As you can see, I've got problems at every turn. I’m not sure what to do now, so ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED. My basic problems are, as I understand it, my wininet.dll file is infected, trojan apps that supposedly show up in add/remove programs don't and I can't uninstall the different one that does, the trojan files that should show up in HijackThis log aren't, can't install replacement .inf file, and can't run ActiveScan or Housecall outside scans. If you can solve this you are a digital godlike genius!
