Welcome pck!
Do you need any of the data on the notebook? If not, the easiest (and maybe only) way would be to boot the computer using a Windows 98 boot disk, format the hard drive from the command prompt (A:\format C:), and then install Windows 98 from the CD (D:\Setup).

Thanks for the welcome....I do feel welcome . k, i don't need the info on the notebook. I have been able to get a windows 98 boot disk, and i do have a windows 98 upgrade cd....new never been used. Can i use this cd or would i have to get the complete 98 software? once i insert the boot disk, all i have to do is follow the prompts and not do anything that would confuse me?

Usually, to install the Windows 98 Upgrade CD you need to have a full version of a previous version of Windows. While installing, Windows 98 Upgrade asks you to insert media from a previous version of Windows. This can be either a CD or floppy.
HINT: If you don't have a previous version of Windows check out this site.
You shouldn't have any trouble once you get into Windows 98 setup, but if you do just reply to this topic!
