IP Address - 192.168.7.2
Subnet Mask - 255.255.255.0
Preferred DNS server - ...
Alternate DNS server -
Default Gateway - 192.168.7.1

...then I type in 192.168.7.2 into IE and it tries to connect to the internet via another connection. I change the default connection so it doesn't try to connect, and nothing happens.

Nothing happens! Under network settings, the 'LAN' connection seems to be working, but IE can't connect through the Solwise modem.
What are the steps I need to take for simply connecting to the internet through the modem router?

Do you use a serial cable to connect the modem/router to the PC?
