I've tried Spy-bot, Norton AV, Ad-aware as you suggested, Buster, and that Rubber-Ducky utility to get rid of Home Search. It appears to be gone...and then soon the pop-ups and the page "about.com" or "Home Search" comes back. I'm also getting a new DLL pop-up error upon rebooting connected to Wild Tangent. All of this follows destruction of my inbox and all Outlook Express dbx files, and a re-generation of the "Welcome to Outlook Express". I manged to extract all of OE's mail. I don't know if that attack on OE was related. I have Norton AV installed.

I did part of what you advise to get rid of Home Search, but honestly, your help suggestions are so long and complicated for Home Search, I'm really hoping it will be something else! Thanks for your help!

Here's the easy fix, but it doesn't always work:
1. In internet options/advanced, uncheck "Enable third-party browser extensions"
2. Boot in safe mode.
3. Run an updated Ad-aware. Use Custom scanning, and check "Scan within archives".All memory and registry options should be checked.
4. Delete all entries in quaratine list.
5. Run HSRemove.exe (Download, Run, Click "Scan and Remove".)
6. Reboot in normal mode.
7. Run HSRemove.exe again.
8. Go to internet options in CP, or right-click ie shortcut. (Don't start ie).
In General, reset homepage to desired URL.

Post a new HJT log when finished.

Oops, going over your instructions again, I realized I hadn't clicked off "archives" in "Ad-Aware" custom settings. So I did that, caught one more thing with a name like Track Cache, but HSRemove still didn't catch anything. Drat. It's still going to "about com" despite my resetting the browser. Here's the log:

Yup, you've got the fun one.

Here's the easy fix, but it doesn't always work:
1. In internet options/advanced, uncheck "Enable third-party browser extensions"
2. Boot in safe mode.
3. Run an updated Ad-aware. Use Custom scanning, and check "Scan within archives".All memory and registry options should be checked.
4. Delete all entries in quaratine list.
5. Run HSRemove.exe (Download, Run, Click "Scan and Remove".)
6. Reboot in normal mode.
7. Run HSRemove.exe again.
8. Go to internet options in CP, or right-click ie shortcut. (Don't start ie).
In General, reset homepage to desired URL.

Post a new HJT log when finished.

Important information about the above file !
There is a legit file spoolsv.exe file in C:\WINDOWS\System32\ folder . Don't delete this file. You should delete the non-Microsoft file. To check if it's a MS file or not, right click on the file, and select Properties: the Microsoft file description is Spooler SubSystem App. See the picture below and note the difference.

Please delete your temporary files. Double Click My Computer (WinXP: Navigate to Start --->My Computer)
You will see an icon representing your harddrive (most likely C: Drive) Right Click on the hard drive icon and click Properties at the
bottom of the fly out window. One the very first tab (General) you will see a button labeled "Disk Cleanup"...click that button.
Make sure the following are checked:
Downloaded Program Files
Temporary Internet Files and
Recycle Bin

Reboot and post a new log.
