[FONT=Arial]A couple of days ago my PC got hit by a combination of adware and spyware viruses, I was able to remove most of these with a trial edition of Norton AntiVirus, however Norton's email scanner going mad scanning and blocking thousands of e-mails to random addresses that I had not sent. Also my desktop has a security warning saying "A fatal error in IE has occurred at 0028:C0011E36 in VXD Vmm(01) + 00010E36. Error was caused by Trojan-Spy.HTML.Smitfraud.c *System can not function in normal mode. Please check you security settings. *Scan your PC with any available antivirus / spyware remover program to fix the problem." I have since tried both Norton and Trojan Remover 6.4.1 and neither program is finding any malicious files on my machine despite the desktop message. My machine is now running slower than usual but everything seems to be functioning. Also tried using my XP disc to repair OS files and recieved a response telling me my administrator password is incorrect. Tried using PowerQuest Partition Magic 8.0 to clean hard drive, and after restarting it tells me 'xmnt2002 not found autoscan cancelled'. Have also tried to re-format my hard-drive using command prompt, after initial warning i receive the following message "Verifying 117232M Format cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. Format may run if this volume is dismounted first. ALL OPENED HANDLES TO THIS VOLUME WOULD THEN BE INVALID. Would you like to force a dismount on this volume? (Y/N)" Then I enter Y and "Cannot lock the drive. The volume is still in use." and I end up back at the initial prompt! As you can imagine this is all very annoying, can you please help me??

Hello and welcome to Geeks to Go! :tazz: I'm kool808 and I will be helping you today.

We'll need you to use a free diagnostic tool [ HiJackThis ], read the short tutorial [ HERE ]

Then post the results of the scan here.

Most of what it lists will be harmless or even essential, DO NOT delete or modify anything yet! I will be along to tell you what steps to take after you post the contents of the scan results.

In the event you cannot download it then you have to use another computer then transfer it to your PC.  If you are not able to run it through desktop or C:\HJT then you have to use the Task Manager, available through CTRL+ALT+DELETE then choose New Task.
