Hey admins, heard this site from a fellow clan member. My web browser seems to have been hijacked. Everytime I open internet explorer, I get an about:blank page, and I cannot save a homepage. Everytime I try to access my e-mail, the same thing happens. I have run ad aware se and spybot several times and cannot fix the problem. I ran a hijackthis scan and here it goes:

Hi tguleader81,

1) First things first, you are using an outdated version of HijackThis. Please update to the newest version, 1.98.2 from here.

2) Click My Computer, then C:\
In the menu bar, File->New->Folder.
That will create a folder named New Folder, which you can rename to "HJT" or "HijackThis". Now you have C:\HJT\ folder. Put your HijackThis.exe there, and run it here from now on.

3) Go here and download CleanUp!. Install and run. For a tutorial on how to use CleanUp!, click here.

4) Head over to Windows Updates and at the very least download Service Pack 1.

There is a bunch of bad stuff on your log (nothing we can't handle), and I'd like to get that stuff out of the way first.

As far SP1 goes, I cant update because Windows says my serial key is invalid. Go figure. I hope that wont hamper me from fixing this awful problem.

Got permission from admin...

1) Go here and download and run the tool. After fixing anything it finds, reboot.

1) Run HJT and place a check next to the following items:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = about:NavigationFailure
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = about:NavigationFailure
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = about:NavigationFailure
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = about:NavigationFailure
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = about:NavigationFailure
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = about:NavigationFailure
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,HomeOldSP = about:blank

O18 - Filter: text/plain - {3330E90A-42D8-4670-BC16-AEA1B642ABDB} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\fhm.dll

2) Close any open windows and browsers and click "Fix Checked".

3) Reboot into safe mode:
Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

4) Enable hidden files/folders:
Under the Hidden files and folders heading select "Show hidden files and folders".
Uncheck the "Hide protected operating system files (recommended)" option.
Uncheck the "Hide file extensions for known file types" option.
Click Yes to confirm. Click OK.

5) Find and delete the following file:
C:\WINDOWS\System32\fhm.dll

6) Restart into normal mode (just restart your computer as you normally would), post a new log, and tell us how your computer is doing.

As far SP1 goes, I cant update because Windows says my serial key is invalid. Go figure. I hope that wont hamper me from fixing this awful problem.

We will be able to fix it even without the updates. Are you sure you have a legal version of XP? If so, contanct Microsoft. If not, think about buying one, they aren't very expensive. Not to worry though, I will help you no matter if you have SP1.

You wanna post another HJT log just to make sure?

Did it get fixed by following the removal instructions are did you figure out on your own?
