I ran adaware and spybot and CWShredder, but nothing I do helps. Another pop-up will appear every minute or so, all i have to do is log in and they show up, i don't even have to run anything or open up explorer. Also, I recently have been unable to turn on the Firewall and Automatic Updates that I recieved with the Windows Service Pack 2. I have HiJack this, and I hope you can see the problem in the log. Thanks.

Okay, the spyware is gone, but I'm still unable to turn on my firewall/automatic updates. I don't have the Service Pack 2, and for some reason it won't let me get it off the updates site for windows. I try to install windows installer 3.1, and it says that it failed. I then check my update records to find out why, and it hasnt even recorded the attempt. That's all, please help. Thanks.

When you say you are unable to turn on the firewall or automatic updates, please be more specific. Do you get error messages? Are the settings windows grayed out? Do you make changes but find that they revert back?

Try windows repair:

You will need your XP cd

Boot up with the XP CD in the drive and let Setup run. Go past the "C" and "R" repair options by pressing Enter just as if you're doing a clean install and you'll eventually get an option to "Repair an existing installation". That's the one you want. If it asks about formatting you've gone wrong, so start over.

You'll get to keep your existing apps & settings, but you need to re-install SP2, Windows Updates & any unsigned drivers afterwards. NOTE: Be aware that you'll lose any protection from Blaster / Sasser type worms. Don't go online without a firewall, whether the built in Windows one or 3rd party.

Maybe after the repair you can turn on your firewall.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\exp.exe (from his log)
Thats a trojan. And he has only run antispyware.
The Trojan might still be there.

Question for SAAB. Which XP CD? The reinstall one? Also, when you say let setup run, what do you mean? As in press F2 on the boot menu to enter setup? Are we not even talking about the boot menu? Setup as in the reinstall setup? As you can see I am lost. In response to Darth Ash, I've since run anti-virus/trojan programs, and i'll post another HiJack log just to be sure. I am still unable to turn on Windows firewall or automatic updates. Every time i try, it simply says that windows cannot turn them on and gives no explanation as to why. Thanks again for the help.

Answers to your questions:

Which XP CD? The reinstall one? Yes.
Also, when you say let setup run, what do you mean? As in press F2 on the boot menu to enter setup? Are we not even talking about the boot menu? Setup as in the reinstall setup? I mean setup of your XP disc, yes.

Alright, so when the menu for the XP disc pops up, I click on the install button, then an error message pops up that tells me that the disc has an older version of windows than is on the computer, when it clearly states on the disc that it is for XP. Brings up another question, do I install XP, or optional windows components, or additional tasks. What button do i press?

Press R to repair windows. The reason your computer tells you it's an older version is because of sp2. If you could get on your computer try uninstalling sp2.
