Hello - my browser is running very slow and some web pages won't open up at all, stated the server could not be found. I have talked to my ISP and they insist that it is a browser issue, not their connection. I have run AdAware and downloaded all Windows Critical Updates. My firewall program, EZ LIte, said it detected 5 viruses and to do a scan (after I did the AdAware scan), which I did, but when I reviewed the results of the scan, all sectors said scan was not completed and the files were unable to be opened.

FOllowing is my Hijack This log - thank you!

Ok you have gone wrong somewhere. My fault. Lets start over.

For us take a closer look at what is running on your PC. We'll need you to use a free diagnostic tool (HiJackThis) and post a log back here with the results.

Click the HijackThis Guide in my signature, download it and follow the instructions in the guide.

Most of what it lists will be harmless or even essential, DO NOT delete or modify anything yet! Someone will be along to tell you what steps to take after you post the contents of the scan results.

Please delete your temporary files. Double Click My Computer (WinXP: Navigate to Start --->My Computer)
You will see an icon representing your harddrive (most likely C: Drive) Right Click on the hard drive icon and click Properties at the
bottom of the fly out window. One the very first tab (General) you will see a button labeled "Disk Cleanup"...click that button.
Make sure the following are checked:
Downloaded Program Files
Temporary Internet Files and
Recycle Bin

Click OK and Disk Cleanup will delete those files for you.

Congratulations! Your system is CLEAN <_<

How do you prevent spyware from being installed again? We strongly recommend installing SpywareBlaster (it's free for personal use).

Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted pests.
Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox.
Restrict the actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer.
Consumes no system resources.

Download, run, check for updates, download updates, select all, protect against checked. All done. Check for updates every couple of weeks. If you have any errors running the program like a missing file see the link at the bottom of the javacool page.
Link to SpywareBlaster: http://www.geekstogo...tion=show&id=12

It's also very important to keep your system up to date to avoid unnecessary security risks. Click Here to make sure that you have the latest patches for Windows.

These next two steps are optional, but will provide the greatest protection.
1. Use ANY browser besides Internet Explorer, almost every exploit is crafted to take advantage of an IE weakness. We usually recommend [http://www.geekstogo...d&id=35]Firefox[/URL].
2. Install Sun's Java. It's much more secure than Microsoft's Java Virtual Machine .

It's okay to delete the Hijack This folder if everything is working okay.

After doing all these, your system will be thoroughly protected from future threats. :D

Thanks for all your help - I ran the disk cleaner, installed and ran Spyware Blaster and installed Sun's java. Both my system and my browser are still really slow. Any other suggestions? :D

I have 21,119,934,464 GB free and 8,861,208,576 GB used. The browser seems to be a little quicker today but I still can't access some web sites that I can access from my other computer.

Try this - with all browser windows closed, Go to Start->Run and copy and paste each of the following, hitting ok after each:
regsvr32 softpub.dll
regsvr32 wintrust.dll
regsvr32 initpki.dll
regsvr32 dssenh.dll
regsvr32 rsaenh.dll
regsvr32 gpkcsp.dll
regsvr32 sccbase.dll
regsvr32 slbcsp.dll
regsvr32 cryptdlg.dll
Reboot, then try to access the sites that were giving you problems again.

Download and run this utility:
http://www.geekstogo...n=download&id=7

"This Utility Restores (WinSock and TCP/IP) Registry Keys, that may become Corrupt after Removing the Host Program that Modified them."

Basically some viruses and ad-ware (New.net for example), modify your tcp/ip or internet connectivity settings. Removed said program can leave lingering entries and that may be causing problems. If you're not sure that you are as clean as you need to be when it comes to network settings, etc. Just run it and make sure.
