No more MWAV, I promise! :tazz:

Print these instructions out, or save them to your desktop.

1. Be sure you can view hidden files and folders:

Click Start. Then open My Computer. Select the Tools menu, and click on Folder Options. Select the View tab.
Under Hidden Files and Folders heading, select “Show hidden files and folders”. Uncheck the “hide protected operating system files” option.
Click “yes” to confirm, and then click “ok”

2. Reboot into Safe Mode and find the following files and delete them:

C:\Documents and Settings\Zak\My Documents\fgf165
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\elitenub infected by .

3. Reboot normally

4. Open your AVPersonal program, and delete the quarantine/recycle bin. Then empty your computers' recycle bin and reboot.

5. Download FindIt's.zip to your desktop: Download Here
  • Create a new folder on your desktop
  • Unzip/extract the files inside that folder you created on your desktop.
  • Open the folder and run FindIt's.bat and wait for notepad to open a text file. It may take awhile so please be patient ...
  • Then post the results here along with a new HJT log by using Add Reply

I've run headlong into a brick wall. AVPersonal doesn't seem to have a quarantine folder and the Find.It thing wouldn't work because a window saying this popped up:

"C:\WINDOWS\System32\cmd.exe
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and icrosoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application."

If i actually clicked close, the same window would pop up again. :tazz:

Very odd. I'm sorry for my late reply for you. I was in bed very early last night with a migraine. ;) I will be around for a little bit now, then will be back later tonight. :tazz:

Let's try a different scan, then, shall we?

*Please click this link to download Silent Runners.
* Save it to the desktop.
* Run Silent Runner's by doubleclicking the "Silent Runners" icon on your desktop.
* You will see a text file appear on the desktop - it's not done yet, just let it run (it won't appear to be doing anything!)
* Once you receive the prompt "All Done!", double-click on the new text file on the desktop and copy that entire log and paste it here.

*NOTE* If you receive any warning message about scripts, please choose to allow the script to run.

Your log IS clean now. If you would like me to help you weed out some of your resource hogs that slow up your boot time, please do the following:

Open HijackThis, then click the "Open the Misc Tools Section" button. Then, next to the button that says "generate Startup List Log" you will see two UNchecked boxes, that say "List all minor sections (full)" and "List empty sections (complete)" After both of those are checked, click on the "Generate Startup List Log" and post the contents here in a reply.

I'll go through it, and point out the items that you can safely disable from startup, to help your computer run faster. :tazz:

Hello again! There are several items starting up when the system boots that do not need to. None of these are essential to be always running, and all of them can cause your system to bog down and run/boot slower. If and when you need to use them, the applications will start automatically when you start the associated program.

Place a check next to each of these in a HijackThis scan, and click the "Fix Selected"..being sure no other windows or programs are running at the time:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [mmtask] c:\Program Files\MusicMatch\MusicMatch Jukebox\mmtask.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MMTray] C:\Program Files\MUSICMATCH\MUSICMATCH Jukebox\mm_tray.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_04\bin\jusched.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [LDM] \Program\BackWeb-8876480.exe
O4 - Global Startup: Digital Line Detect.lnk = ?
O4 - Global Startup: Logitech Desktop Messenger.lnk = C:\Program Files\Logitech\Desktop Messenger\8876480\Program\LDMConf.exe
O4 - Global Startup: Picture Package Menu.lnk = ?
O4 - Global Startup: Picture Package VCD Maker.lnk = ?

Another thing you can do is pare down the programs that start automatically when the computer boots. This is easily managed with Spybot S&D. For example, I ONLY allow my firewall, Anti-Virus, and critical system processes to start. To take control over what starts automatically, follow this:

open Spybot. At the top, click on "mode", and make sure "Advanced" is selected. Then on the bottom left, click on the "Tools" tab. From there, click on "System Startup". Scroll through the list of things that automatically boot up. UNCHECK any that you would rather start manually as needed. NOTE: If you are unsure as to whether something MUST start up in order for the computer to function properly, please post here and ask BEFORE you disable it.

As an example, here are the ONLY things that are checked to startup on MY system:

Located: HK_LM:Run, CaAvTray
command: "C:\Program Files\CA\eTrust EZ Armor\eTrust EZ Antivirus\CAVTray.exe"

Located: HK_LM:Run, CAVRID
command: "C:\Program Files\CA\eTrust EZ Armor\eTrust EZ Antivirus\CAVRID.exe"

Located: HK_LM:Run, dla
command: C:\WINDOWS\system32\dla\tfswctrl.exe

Located: HK_LM:Run, HotKeysCmds
command: C:\WINDOWS\System32\hkcmd.exe

Located: HK_LM:Run, hpsysdrv
command: c:\windows\system\hpsysdrv.exe

Located: HK_LM:Run, IgfxTray
command: C:\WINDOWS\System32\igfxtray.exe

Located: HK_LM:Run, KBD
command: C:\HP\KBD\KBD.EXE

Located: HK_LM:Run, NvCplDaemon
command: RUNDLL32.EXE NvQTwk,NvCplDaemon initialize

Located: HK_LM:Run, nwiz
command: nwiz.exe /install

Located: HK_LM:Run, Recguard
command: C:\WINDOWS\SMINST\RECGUARD.EXE

Let me know if you have any problems or questions, and also let me know how things are running after you take control of your system boot!

I won't give up if you won't! I consulted with another Expert from the site, and he asked me to have you do the following:

1. Go to Start | Run

Then type services.msc

This will lauch a new window, scroll down on the list and search for (Sysinternals) or (CGYJR) and (Sysinternals) or (DDE)

Right click on these entries and select stop

Now right click and select properties, you will get new box with tabs.
In the General Tab, look for Start Up Type: in the drop down box select Disabled

Click Apply then OK and close out of the console.

2. Reboot into Safe Mode. Open HJT and click the "Open misc tools" section. Then click "Delete an NT service". In the text box paste or type CGYJR and click OK. Then let the machine reboot! NOTE: Please boot back into SAFE MODE at this time.
After you are back in Safe Mode, follow the above procedure for DDE as well.

3. Open HijackThis and scan for a log. Place a check next to all of the following only:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [StorageGuard] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Sonic\Update Manager\sgtray.exe" /r
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [PCMService] "C:\Program Files\Dell\Media Experience\PCMService.exe"
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [msnappau] "C:\Program Files\MSN Apps\Updater\01.02.3000.1001\en-nz\msnappau.exe"

O23 - Service: CGYJR - Sysinternals - www.sysinternals.com - C:\DOCUME~1\Zak\LOCALS~1\Temp\CGYJR.exe
O23 - Service: DDE - Sysinternals - www.sysinternals.com - C:\DOCUME~1\Zak\LOCALS~1\Temp\DDE.exe

Click the "Fix Selected" button, and then reboot.

4. Open the C:\Documents and Settings\Zak\My Documents\AVPersonal\INFECTED folder and clear out/delete permanently ALL FILES.

5. *Download RegSeeker http://www.hoverdesk.net/freeware.htm and install it.
*Click on 'Clean The Registry' in the left panel.
*Check all boxes (make sure the backup box in the lower left corner is selected!).
*After it runs, click 'Select All' on the bottom. Then right-click on any selected item in the window and select 'Delete Selected Items'.
*Click 'Quit RegSeeker'.

Now, open any of your installed programs, and make sure that everything opens ok. If so, reboot, then go back and run RegSeeker again. Do the same thing again if anything is found. You may have to run RegSeeker 5 - 6 times, but you want it showing none to very few items.

*Make sure to reboot between each use of the program.

6. After the above is done, post a fresh log here for review, and let me know if things are running better now!

Hi Omnifire,

Kat is away for the weekend and asked me to look in here.

I recommend you Open My computer and right click Local Disk C:, then choose properties. Uncheck the box 'Allow Indexing Service.....', click apply, then check 'Apply to C:\, subfolders and files', click OK. Click the Tools tab, then defragment and defragment again. Close the properties box when done. Unless you are on a network with multiple shared printers or workstations, click Tools on the menu, then Folder Options. Click the view tab and uncheck 'Search for network folders and printers'. Click Apply and OK.

Open C:\Windows\repair. Locate, right click and copy autoexec.nt
Open C:\Windows\system32, right click a blank area and paste. Try running the FindIt.bat again and post it's log.

Reboot.

If your boot-time has not improved, please download GetService.zip
Extract it to a new folder on the desktop.
Open the folder and double click on the Getservice.bat file to run it. This will create and open a text file named getservice.txt in the same folder. Copy and paste the contents here.
