[schoolsgirl]

on 6/20 I clicked on a site that was highjacked by ezula, it installed icons on my desktop

I spent some time trying to find info on this malware on the web, I attempted
to remove most files, at the time but I was still having some troubles and the
icons were re installed on my desktop, after removing, once again, I took the
computer to a tech who charged me 45. and told me he couldnt find anything
when I got the computer home I looked in my system and found
OIN program installed in my add/remove programs folder, attempted to
remove but it pops up a website (I always unplug cable connection when I
do) I have been unable to remove this program

Im getting

"Microsoft Visual C Runtime library buffer overrun detected pop ups"

I followed the instructions on what to do before posting a highjackthis log on
the forum

McCaffee found

C:\Windows\system32\aesldp.dll ADWare-LOOK2ME

...and 28 others like it

(all of this in safe mode and sys restore off)

clicked 'delete'

MCaffee 'cannot delete' and gave me an

'Internet Explorer Script Error line 2299'

CW Shredder encountered a problem and closed

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.

From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter, then press any key to reboot your computer. After a reboot, your desktop and icons will appear, then disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log, and we'll clean up what's left.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder unless you are asked to do so!

I ran McAfee last night, is that ok to do? I was looking at what files it was scanning and noticed "ezula files"!!, scanned right over them and passed them off as 'safe' doing a search of files/folders found tons of zip ezula files, I deleted them

do you recommend a virus program? McAfee doesnt seem to be doing the job despite the fact that I look for updates on a daily basis, use a firewall...



btw, I just checked, that OIN is still in my add/remove programs list

1. Make sure your PC is set to show all hidden files and folders go here for instructions on how to do this. http://www.xtra.co.n...1916458,00.html

2. Boot into safemode to do this keep tapping F8 on your keyboard while your PC is starting up you will get a menu select safemode.

3. While in safemode open Hijackthis and click scan. Then tick and fix the following in Hijackthis with all windows closed except Hijackthis.

Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing the following applications:

• Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
• Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
• How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
• How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.

To protect yourself further:

• IE/Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
• MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your computer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
• Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.

I also suggest that you delete any files from "temp", "tmp" folders. In Internet Explorer, click on "Tools" => "Internet Options" => "Delete Files" and select the box that says "Delete All Offline Content" and click on "OK" twice. Also, empty the recycle bin by right clicking on it and selecting "Empty Recycle Bin". These steps should be done on a regular basis.

You can remove that add/remove line by opening Hijackthis click the misc tools section > open uninstall manager and remove the entry.
