Hi y'all,

I swear, I have spent hours and hours the past couple of days trying to get rid of that annoying lop malware. My computer performance is really downgrading overall - I have cable modem but everything is getting reallly slow.

I ran Cleanup, CWShredder, Ad-Aware, Spybot, Ewido, Trend Housecall, eScan, and checked my windows update and I have SP2. After many hours of scans, nothing seems to work! I've also run Norton antivirus, and it found viruses, but can't delete them. Sigh.

No matter what I do, I can't get rid of the lop browser, desktop icons, etc.

Here's my ewido scan and my Hijack this log ... any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Hi hoosgirl and welcome to the Geeks to Go Forums.

My name is Trevuren and I will be helping you with your log.

1. If you haven't logged in go to Geeks to Go and do so. Then proceed to item a.

If you already have logged in, go directly to item a.

a. Click on My Controls at the top right hand corner of the window.
b. In the left hand column, click "View Topics"
c. If you click on the title of your post, you will be taken there

2. Also, while at the My Controls page, check the box to the right of your post and then scroll down.
.Where it says "unsubscribe" click the pull-down menu and select "immediate email notification"

3. I need you to remove the double spacing from your log

To remove the double spacing in your log, please do the following:

.Please go to Start - Run... and type notepad.exe
.Hit OK.
.Now go to Format and uncheck WordWrap.
.Close Notepad.

4. Please DELETE your current HJT program from its present location.

5. Download and run the following HijackThis autoinstall program from Here HJT needs to be in its own folder so that the program itself isn't deleted by accident. Having the backups could be VITAL to restoring your system if something went wrong in the FIX process!

A. Close ALL windows except HJT

B. SCAN with HJT and SAVE LOG. (a notepad window will open with the log in it when you click Save Log) (Ctrl-A to'select all', Ctrl-C to 'copy')

C. POST the log in this thread using 'Add Reply' (Ctrl-V to 'paste')

DO NOT MAKE ANY CHANGES OR CLICK "FIX CHECKED" UNTIL WE CHECK THE LOG, AS MOST OF THE FILES ARE LEGIT AND VITAL TO THE FUNCTION OF YOUR COMPUTER

Regards,

Trevuren

1. Please download and run the LOP Remover Tool from HERE

2. REBOOT your system.

3. Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order in which they are mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.

First we need to make all files and folders VISIBLE:

Go to start>control panel>folder options>view (tab)
*choose to "show hidden files and folders,"
*uncheck the "hide protected operating system files" and the "hide extensions for know file types" boxes.
*Close the window with ok
*All hidden files will now be visible

Please RUN HijackThis.
. Click the SCAN button to produce a log.

Place a check mark beside each one of the following items:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://gokozhefngevw...dxT32psG0O.html
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {549B5CA7-4A86-11D7-A4DF-000874180BB3} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: UCS Shared Browser Helper Object - {F1D49A84-8656-43ce-AE3D-AABC1A12243E} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\BhoUCS.dll
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [StyleBoob] C:\DOCUME~1\ROBINI~1\APPLIC~1\README~1\title wma.exe

Now with all the items selected, and all windows closed except for HJT, delete them by clicking the FIX checked button. Close the HijackThis window and Reboot Your System in Safe Mode

How to use the F8 method to Start Your Computer in Safe Mode

*Restart the computer.
*as soon as BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the Advanced Options menu appears.
*Use the arrow keys to select the Safe mode menu item
*press Enter.

Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders (with all their content), and DELETE them (if they are present):

C:\WINDOWS\system32\BhoUCS.dll
C:\DOCUME~1\ROBINI~1\APPLIC~1\README~1\title wma.exe

Exit Explorer, and REBOOT BACK INTO NORMAL MODE

3. Finally, RUN Hijackthis again and produce a new HJT log. Post it in the forum so we can check how everytjhing looks now.

Regards,

Trevuren

1. Please download and run the LOP Remover Tool from HERE

I did this, and when it ran, it came up with the message "No LOP uninstallers were run from add/remove programs.  Click YES to force the uninstall of any LOP software of left over LOP files found on this computer."

I clicked YES, and it asked me to close all browsers.  Then it came up and said "uninstall complete."

2. REBOOT your system.

Did this.

This one wasn't here ... it was set for Search Bar = dell.com so I didn't delete it.

Thanks again for your help, Trevuren. When I restarted my computer in normal mode, it automatically launched Internet Explorer, and it's back to that LOP page. The lop icons are also back on my desktop (casino, etc.). Also, I've noticed that now I can not navigate to a secure site on IE anymore. When I try to log in to hotmail, for example, it takes me to the faux LOP "page can not be displayed page" with search options and on the bottom is says "downloading res://C:\Windows\System32\Shdocle.dll/pagerrror.gif

Here's my log:

1. It is not necessary for you to quote my previous reply. It uses up bandwith needlessly. Just report on anything that doesn't go according to plan. Thanks.

2. First we will try and find the didden elements of the infection. I will provide the necessary directions to remove them in the next post.
  • Open notepad
  • Copy and paste the text contained in the Code box into the new Notepad file:

    dir %Windir%\tasks /a h > files.txt
    notepad files.txt
  • Save this as findjobs.bat , choose to save it as *all files and place it on your desktop.
  • Doubleclick on op findjobs.bat and post the content of the textfile you get in your next reply.

Now to remove these elements of LOP
  • Open Notepad and copy and paste the content of the code box in it:

    C:\
    cd C:\Windows\Tasks
    attrib -r -s -h A8D2B1EE91812766.job
    del A8D2B1EE91812766.job
    attrib -r -s -h B470905B91873B27.job
    del B470905B91873B27.job

  • Save this Notepad file as remjobs.bat , choose to save as *all files
and place it on your desktop.

  • Doubleclick on remjobs.bat. A doswindow will open and close again, this is normal.

  • Afterwards, doubleclick on findjobs.bat again and paste the content of the textfile you get into your next reply.

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://www.hazavkspy...dxT32psG0O.html
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [software logo bias setup] C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\usercoolsoftwarelogo\Encseek.exe

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\usercoolsoftwarelogo<===Folder
C:\DOCUME~1\ROBINI~1\APPLIC~1\README~1\title wma.exe

Exit Explorer, and REBOOT BACK INTO NORMAL MODE

Finally, RUN Hijackthis again and produce a new HJT log. Post it in the forum so we can check how everytjhing looks now.

Regards,

Trevuren

I feel the end in sight! I deleted the three items in HJT, but couldn't find these two (I can't find an application data folder at all, so I hope it's not that I'm looking in the wrong place)

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\usercoolsoftwarelogo<===Folder
C:\DOCUME~1\ROBINI~1\APPLIC~1\README~1\title wma.exe

HOW TO USE WINDOWS EXPLORER

General:
  • Right Click on the START button
  • Left Click on "Explore"
  • Find "Local Disc C" near the top and scroll down the list of folders under Local Disc C until you find 'Documents & Settings".
  • Then expand that folder by right clicking on the little cross to the left. This will provide you with a multitude of options to choose from, one of which is "All Users".
  • Once again, expand the "All Users" folder and it expands into multiple choices both under it and in the right hand pane..
  • One of the choices is "Application Data", please click on it and look into the window on the right for that file.
  • If this proves to be unsuccessfull, please try the same procedure but in Safe Mode.
The second file can be found in the same way. Look for something like this: C:\DOCUMENTS and Settings\ROBINI~1\APPLICation Data\README~1\title wma.exe

Good Luck,

Trevuren

Thanks for the pointers. I could only find the application data folder when I was in regular mode. The folder did not appear in safe mode. I deleted them both in regular mode and here's a new log:
