Hi,

Each time when I open the MS Internet Explorer I get a Norton Viruswarning regarding the file c:\windows\system32\drv2cltr.dll

Though on that spot this dll is not existing. It is not even existing on my whole disk. Running all kinds of spyware checkers...didn't help.
Run a full system scan by Norton: nothing found, all nice and clean.

I did several system restores...did not help.

I also do not suffer from any anoying popups or whatsoever. Only the message from Norton appears. And I see in process overview that multiple iexplorer.exe files are running, while only one browser is active at that moment.

This is my Hijackthis log:

  • Please click this link to download Silent Runners.
  • Save it to the desktop.
  • Run Silent Runner's by doubleclicking the "Silent Runners" icon on your desktop.
  • You will see a text file appear on the desktop - it's not done yet, just let it run (it won't appear to be doing anything!)
  • Once you receive the prompt "All Done!", double-click on the new text file on the desktop and copy that entire log and paste it here.

  • NOTE* If you receive any warning message about scripts, please choose to allow the script to run.
    For some time it will look like nothing is happening. Just keep waiting.
  • Once it's done it will create a log. A window will come up telling you when it's saved. Please post that log here

Hi Soundwave,

Copy the following into a new text file in Notepad and Save it as fix.reg (make sure the Save as Type is set to All Files)

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon]
"System"=-
"System"=""

Double click on fix.reg and let it merge into your registry.

Locate and delete the file - cskcm.exe.

You can use the windows Search function to locate this file. Make sure that the system and hidden files are visible. For more info on this read this Page

Reboot the PC in Normal Mode and post a fresh HJT log here. Also let me know how your PC is behaving

registry has been altered.

cskcm.exe not found.

rebooted.

problem was solved.

checked the system32 folder, and got a warning from Norton that cskcm.exe was found and removed.

So the problem is fixed, thank you very much for that! I learned a lot today.
Though I still don't understand why a full virusscan did not detect this file, and that it was not found during my first search. Do you have any idea?

Hi Soundwave,

Lets try it this way -

Boot the PC in Safe Mode (repeatedly tap the F8 key when the PC is starting up).

Merge the reg file into registry.

Reboot the PC in Safe Mode again.

Locate and delete the file - cskcm.exe

Run a scan with Norton. Reboot the PC normally and let me know how it goes !!!
