Hi,

Have spent all day trying to remove Cool web search. I have used a virus scanner, CW shredder and Spybot. Most of it has been removed but I am left with a white screen on my PC. I can see my icons ok and they seem to work but the screen is white or grey if I move the mouse. It seems to be on top of my desktop picture because that appears when I boot up.

The properties of the screen say it is a Desktop.html but I cannot find it to delete it.

Below is a copy of my HTLog

Make sure to clear your temporary files. Go to "My Computer" and right click your Hard Drive (usually C:\) then click "Properties". Then click the "Disk Cleanup" button and make sure there are checks in the boxes next to any Temp/Temporary folder and Recycle Bin. Clean it up. Run CWS and see if it still detects the files.

Please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an X in the boxes, only next to these following items, then click fix checked.

Hi,

Done what was asked. The system seems to work ok appart for the screen as mentioned earier. It is grey and changes to white when the mouse is on an icon or the tool bar at the bottom.

This PC is on a network accessing the internet via a proxy.

If I log on as administrator on the PC on this computer then everything is OK but if I log on as a user onto the network then the white screen appears. No other PC on the network is affected.

Have added 2 Hijackthis logs, the 1st is the administrator log the 2nd is logged on as user onto the netowrk, hope this gives you some extra help.

FOUND THIS ON ANOTHER SITE WITH SAME PROBLEM.

Hide your taskbar and right click on the empty desktop>
PROPERTIES>DESKTOP tab>CUSTOMIZE DESKTOP>WEB
uncheck or delete whatever seems to be suspicious in the WEBPAGE box.
