Hi,
I have read a few posts and tried a couple things that seemed to have related to my problems but have had no success, so i thought i would start my own thread. A friend on AIM sent me a link, but it was actually a virus or spyware and it installed a bunch of programs on my computer, zango, 180 search assistant, select cashback, and media gateway to name a few... I have Ad-Aware SE, Spybot S&D, Norton Antivirus, Microsoft Antispyware, and HijackThis. I deleted the install client that causes 180 search assistant to install upon start up, but its still on my computer. I disabled a bunch of things on MSCONFIG, and deleted files on Add/Remove programs, but many are still there. Reading the directions i checked everything back on in MSCONFIG, and ran a HijiackThis scan. Here are the results...if I have done anything wrong please let me know and your help would be greatly appriciated.

Hey Excal,

Thanks a lot for responding, over the past couple of days i have been able to get rid of some of the spyware, I think, but I still see programs like Select Cashback in my processes, and am worried about possible trojans that AVG did not pick up. With that said here is my HijackThis log as of 2 minutes ago.....

Hi Ben,

I can see that you have some malware issues. This maybe a few step process in removing it. I encourage you to stick with it and follow my directions as closely as possible so as to avoid complicating the problem further

DOWNLOAD PROGRAMS

Download and install CleanUp! Here*NOTE* Cleanup deletes EVERYTHING out of temp/temporary folders and does not make backups.
We will use this program later.

Download Aimfix to your desktop - Herehttp://jayloden.com/AIMFix.exe
WE will be using this later

THE FIX

Please read this post completely, it may make it easier for you if you copy and paste this post to a new text document or print it for reference later.

1. Click this link to be sure you can view hidden files.

2. Ensure you are NOT connected to the internet.

3. Reboot into safe mode.

Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

4. Close all browsers, windows and unneeded programs.

5. Open HiJack and do a scan.

6. Put a Check next to the following items:

O1 - Hosts: 64.91.255.87 www.dcsresearch.com
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [itunes] C:\dial.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ViewMgr] C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe

O16 - DPF: {15AD6789-CDB4-47E1-A9DA-992EE8E6BAD6} - http://static.windup...e/bridge-c5.cab

7. click the Fix Checked box

8. Please remove these entries from Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel(if present):

Viewpoint Manager
AutoUpdater

9. Please remove the following folders using Windows Explorer (if present):

C:\Program Files\Viewpoint
C:\Program Files\AutoUpdate

10. Please remove just the files from the following paths using Windows Explorer (if present):

C:\dial.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\itmdclth.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\cv6s8g07.exe
C:\WINDOWS\cnat.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\a004vfbv.exe

Hi Ben,

1. Please remove these entries from Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel(if present):

select cashback <----It may not unistall, let me know and we will take care of it

2. Please remove the following folders using Windows Explorer (if present):

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\SahImages

3. Please remove just the files from the following paths using Windows Explorer (if present):

C:\install.htm
C:\WINDOWS\0qfjet1e.exe
C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\MediaGatewayX.dll
C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\popcaploader.dll
C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\popcaploader.inf
C:\WINDOWS\system32\fa8jfdf5.dll

4. Launch Notepad, and copy/paste the box below into a new text file. Save it as fixme.reg (make sure that Save as Type is set at "All Files") on your Desktop. Ensure there is no space at above REGEDIT 4.

REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\CLASSES\MAGNET]

[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\MEDIAGATEWAYX.INSTALLER]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MINIGOLF]

5. Locate fixme.reg on your Desktop and double-click on it. You will receive a prompt similar to: "Do you wish to merge the information into the registry?". Answer "Yes" and wait for a message to appear similar to "Merged Successfully".

reboot and Let me know how everything is running!

Ok I Uninstalled Select CashBack via Add/Remove Programs and it seems, as I was very careful this time reading how they worded everything and it seems to be off my computer. Once again there were some things I was unable to do.....

I could not remove the Folder as I could not find it....
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\SahImages

I could not remove the Files as I could not find them....
C:\install.htm
C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\MediaGatewayX.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\fa8jfdf5.dll

When I attempted to do the REGEDIT4, I did as you said, and when I clicked on the file on my desktop i was asked to allow the Script to run by windows, and I clicked Allow, then after about a second it would say the same thing again, and i clicked allow, 4 or 5 times before I clicked block to stop it from warning me. I didnt get a message that said Merged Succesfully. Im not sure if i did something wrong....Anyways my computer seems to be running fine. If you would me to post another HijackThis log just let me know.

Thanks so much for your help so far,

Ben

Your log was clean, so I think we are all set if your computer is running fine now ;)

Great job, it appears your computer is clean :tazz:

Ensure you rehide your “hidden files and folders” back to the way they were.

Now that your system is Malware Free, it is important to reset your system Restore. Click Here to learn how to.

Might I suggest the following Free Spyware programs, if you don't already have them, for added security, you can download them at the following links. These programs work great for detection:

Ad-aware SE
Spybot S&D
Microsoft Anti-Spyware

If you are unhappy with your current antivirus and want to replace it or if you dont already have one, I suggest one of these free programs:
*Note - do not use more than one anti-virus program as it will more than likely cause conflict.

AVG
Avast
AntiVir

The following free programs are great for prevention:

SpywareBlaster 3.4
Spywareguard
IE/Spyad

A Firewall is a must! Here are 3 good free versions:
(do not have more than one firewall running on your system)

Sygate
Kerio
ZoneLabs

There are other options other than Internet Explorer for a browser, which some say have better security. Two of them are:

Firefox
Opera

If you decide to keep Internet Explorer, This site is a great source for tightening up security on It's settings.

Make sure that you keep your Operating System and IE updated with the latest Critical Security Updates from Microsoft...they usually come out once a month, on the 2nd Tuesday of each month.

Be sure and give the Temp folders a cleaning out now and then as well, Make sure after you clean your Temp files to empty out your Recycle bin as well.
For ease use the following program:

Cleanup
Run "Cleanup" and when it has finished, Reboot

To help prevent future spyware installations/infections, please read the Anti-Spyware Tutorial and use the tools provided. Also read How I got Infected
