well...along with many others i have managed to let some jerk over the internet nearly destroy my computer... ;)
I have aurora, abi networking, DrPMon, Nail (might've gotten rid of this one), Seeve (might've gotten rid of this one too), The system 32 folder in windows is said to be infected, and i was wondering if aaaamon.dll is spyware.
i have d/l ewido, adaware, norton, AVG, spybot, Hijackthis, and nailfix...also F-Prot Antivirus (which mysteriously popped up on my comp?). these programs have fixed some problems (i think?) When F-prot randomly ran one day it said "install[1].htm" was infected but could not delete it. Also on start-up i get a note that said "windows cannot find Nail.exe".
I know, it's overwhelming, well, at least to me. :tazz: ooh, one more crazy thing! i had some TSC.exe run when i restarted my computer once...it looked like the MSDos screen and had many files running called trojan-this and virus-that (cant remember the actual names of files). Scary...
I would GREATLY appreciate if someone could come to my aid. My comp and internet is getting slower..and slower....

Hello and welcome! Please make sure that you are getting emailed notifications about replies to this topic. If not, hit on the "Options" - button next to the "Add Reply" - function, then choose "Track this Topic".

Ok, to the point then. You do have two nasty infections.

Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/

Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

Please download Nailfix from here:
http://users.pandora...chy/nailfix.zip

Unzip it to the desktop but please do NOT run it yet.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

For additional help in booting into Safe Mode, see the following site:
http://www.pchell.co.../safemode.shtml

Once in Safe Mode, please double-click on Nailfix.cmd. Your desktop and icons will disappear and reappear, and a window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal.

Then please run Ewido, and run a full scan. Save the logfile from the scan.

Close any open windows and/or open browsers, launch HJT, and make sure it's the only program running. Check this object for removal;

F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe

Close all open windows except for HijackThis and hit "Fix Checked".

Restart your computer in normal mode, run a new scan with HJT, post the fresh log here, as well as the log from the Ewido scan.

Hi again!

Please print these instructions out, or write them down, as you can't read them during the fix.

You have a nasty CoolWebSearch infection. First we will need to download a few tools that will help us in the removal of your problem.

Download about:buster by RubbeRDuckY Here.
Download CWShredder Here.
Download SpSeHjfix Here.
Download and install CleanUp! Here

Save all of these files somewhere you will remember like to the Desktop.

Unzip SpSeHjfix to its own folder (ie c:\SpSeHjfix)

Run the CleanUp! installer. You dont need to do anything with it right now.

Update About:Buster
  • Unzip the contents of AboutBuster.zip and an AboutBuster directory will be created.
  • Navigate to the AboutBuster directory and double-click on AboutBuster.exe.
  • Click "OK" at the prompt with instructions.
  • Click "Update" and then "Check For Update" to begin the update process.
  • If any updates exist please download them by clicking "Download Update" then click the X to close that window.
  • Now close About:Buster
Update CWShredder
  • Open CWShredder and click I AGREE
  • Click Check For Update
  • Close CWShredder
Boot into Safe Mode:
Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

Please run about:buster by RubbeRDuckY:
  • Click Start and then OK to allow AboutBuster to scan for Alternate Data Streams.
  • Click Yes to allow it to shutdown explorer.exe.
  • It will begin to check your computer for malicious files. If it asks if you would like to do a second pass, allow it to do so.
  • When it has finished, click Save Log. Make sure you save it as I may need a copy of it later.
  • Reboot your computer into safe mode again
Run about:buster again following the same instructions as above, this time without the restart at the end

Now run CWShredder. Click I Agree, then Fix and then Next, let it fix everything it asks about.

Now run SpSeHjfix. A log will be saved in the same folder that you put the exe into. Please post the results of that log in your next reply.

Now run CleanUp! Click CleanUp and allow it to delete all the temporary files. REBOOT!!

Please run an free online anti-virus scan; Kaspersky or if that doesnt work, you can use TrendMicro or BitDefender. (Please post the results of the scan(s) in your next reply)

After all that, please post back with how things went as well as the logs requested and a new HiJackThis log.

Sorry that it has taken so long for me to reply...things went well. Computer is still slower than normal, but I think that's because I have d/l so much software to get rid of these viruses. about:buster only gave me the option to click on "begin removal". So that's what I did, and it automatically saved the log. Here are my logs! oh, any input on getting rid of abi networking? or is it not a big deal? Thank you so much for your help!

I ran TrendMicro online and the summary stated that there wasn't a virus, worm or trojan. Also, if everything is fixed, what programs do you suggest i keep for viruses, spy-ware, ect. as well as keeping my computer protected in the future? I listed everything i have downloaded in my first posting, if you could look through it and make some suggestions. Thanks much.... :tazz:

Hi again Janna!
Actually, everything's not clean yet.
But certainly looks A LOT better, you did the process great! ;)

Let's move on..

Please download & install;Run the CleanUp! installer and get the program ready to be used but don't run it yet.

Then run the following free Anti-trojan scan;At this point, please launch HiJackThis & close any open windows and/or open browsers. Make sure that only HJT is running at this time. Run a scan with it, and check these objects for removal;

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant =
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch =
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = about:blank
O2 - BHO: AuroraHandlerObj Class - {4AA870AC-8427-42a4-B92E-ECD956197489} - C:\WINDOWS\AuroraHandler.dll (file missing)
O2 - BHO: PEDEV_IEListener Class - {E1412445-4FF8-410e-8D24-F2CF86B171A4} - C:\Program Files\PeDevice\PeDev.dll
O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {2CDE1A7D-A478-4291-BF31-E1B4C16F92EB} - (no file)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [aunxsy] c:\windows\system32\smsaaxx.exe r
O15 - Trusted Zone: *.media-motor.net
O15 - Trusted Zone: *.popuppers.com

Make sure they are checked, then hit "Fix Checked".

Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders and delete if present;

C:\WINDOWS\AuroraHandler.dll
C:\Program Files\PeDevice\ <= Entire Folder
c:\windows\system32\smsaaxx.exe

Run CleanUp.
REBOOT!!

Follow the next steps;

Launch HJT, choose to go to -> "Misc Tools Section" -> click "Check for update online" -> Click "Ok".

Close HJT when finished.

Create an Uninstall List:
  • Open HiJackThis
  • Click on the configure button on the bottom right
  • Click on the tab "Misc Tools"
  • Click on the Box that says "Uninstall Manager"
  • Click on the button "Save list"
  • Copy and paste the List from the notebook onto your post
Create a Startup List
  • Open HiJackThis
  • Click on the configure button on the bottom right
  • Click on the tab "Misc Tools"
  • Check off the 2 boxes next to the Box that says "Generate StartupList log"
  • Click on the button "Generate StartupList log"
  • Copy and paste the StartupList from the notebook onto your post
Now, go back and run a new scan with HiJackThis. Post the fresh log here along with the lists requested and let me know how things went.

ok, couldn't find aurorahandler.dll or smsaaxx.exe to delete, but DID find PeDevice. When i tried to delete it, it said access denied. I updated HJT, but there was no configure button on the bottom right of the screen. I went ahead with the uninstall and startup lists. Here are my logs!

Hope this is everything you needed! quick question...in HJT, creating a startup list, you said "Check OFF the 2 boxes next to the box that says "generate startuplist log," you did mean to have them unchecked? cause that's what i did. Thanks!

Hi again! Log is looking better all the time.
Go ahead and uninstall;

About:Buster
CWShredder
SpSeHjfix
SpySweeper too. It made enough job already.

Please leave CleanUp, HiJackThis and Ewido.
Download Trend Micro™ Anti-Spyware for the Web Utility (by clicking the "Scan and Clean your PC" button).
  • Save it to your desktop.
  • Double-click the new icon on your desktop (tmas-web-scan.exe)
  • It will say "Loading TrendMicro definitions".
  • Once the definitions are loaded, the program will appear to close then re-open.
  • Click "Start Scan"
  • After it's done scanning, click "Scan Results"
  • Make sure all items found have a check next to them, then click "Clean Threats Now".
  • Click Exit.
Run CleanUp! and make sure to reboot!
In place of the TrendMicro icon will be a text file called "Antispyware.log", please double-click that log and copy the entire contents and paste them here.

Run a new scan with HiJackThis and post the fresh log here along with the TrendMicro log.
