I have a laptop that I am trying to install xp pro on. It will not read the cd when I boot up. It is set to boot to cd. I ran all of the 6 startup disk and now when I get to the cd it is telling me that there is a problem with it. I have tried this cd on my desktop computer and it is working properly. I tried another setup cd for xp and I am getting the same error. Do I need to clean the cd rom? When I try another cd on the laptop the cd is working properly.

Wow, you had that ready! This is a Sony, right?

Is your Xp disc a full version disc? Or is it a manufacture recovery disc?

When you put the cd in the drive, do you even get the first initial Boot from CD prompt? If not, I would check the bios again to make sure of the boot sequence. Perhaps you didn't save the bios changes.

I have checked the bios and saved many times. I have booted from the 6 boot up disks as well. When I get to the screen to enter the cd it is telling me that there may be a problem with the cd. I tried another xp full install cd and I am getting the same error.

Howdy:

Try running a lense cleaner through the cd-rom and see if that helps..

Also, are your XP cd's original or one's you or someone made for you (different setup/install procedures)??

I am using a copy I made for myself. I have not ran a cleaner yet so I will try that.

Sorry, unless you have the original and use that, your support here ends now..

This site does not condone the use of pirated/copied software..

If that is all you have, then I suggest you contact Microsoft and purchase a legal license for your XP cd..
