Help With Hard drive partition

I am setting up a new computer, I told XP to create a partition on 40gig which it did but I don't see the rest of the drive. How do I get to what should be drive D. D: is my cdrw/dvdrom at the moment.

right click MY COMPUTER, choose MANAGE

select DISK MANAGEMENT, on the right, in the lower section, you will see unpartitioned space....right click it, choose create partition, then format it...

windows should set it up with a wizard, then assign it D:
