Hi Mike,

There is a little bit of cleaning up to do.

Run Hijack This and click on scan. The following items need to be fixed -

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://red.clientapp...://my.yahoo.com
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapp...rch/search.html
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://red.clientapp...://my.yahoo.com
R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {1C78AB3F-A857-482e-80C0-3A1E5238A565} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {5C8B2A36-3DB1-42A4-A3CB-D426709BBFEB} - (no file)

Close all windows other than Hijack This. Check the boxes next to above items and click on Fix checked.

Clear out the files in the Prefetch folder. Go to start> run> type into the box Prefetch and delete all the files in that folder. Dont delete the folder, only the files in it !!!!!!!!

Reboot the PC in Normal Mode.

Run Hijack This and post a fresh HJT log. Also let me know if your problem persists

Hi Mike,

looks like we will have to dig deeper to solve this problem !!!!

Please RIGHT-CLICK HERE to download Silent Runner's.
  • Save it to the desktop.
  • Run Silent Runner's by doubleclicking the "Silent Runners" icon on your desktop.
  • You will see a text file appear on the desktop - it's not done, let it run (it won't appear to be doing anything!)
  • Once you receive the prompt All Done!, open the text file on the desktop, copy that entire log, and paste it here.
*NOTE* If you receive any warning message about scripts, please choose to allow the script to run.

Hi Mike,

This log didnt throw up anything.

I need you to do two scans -

Place a shortcut to Panda ActiveScan on your desktop.

Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/

Please read Ewido Setup Instructions
Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

Reboot the PC in Safe Mode.

Run Ewido:
  • Click on scanner
  • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • NOTE: During some scans with ewido it is finding cases of false positives.
  • You will need to step through the process of cleaning files one-by-one.
  • If ewido detects a file you KNOW to be legitimate, select none as the action.
  • DO NOT select "Perform action on all infections"
  • If you are unsure of any entry found select none for now.
  • When the scan is finished, click the Save report button at the bottom of the screen.
  • Save the report to your desktop
Close Ewido

Reboot back into Windows and click the Panda ActiveScan shortcut, then do a full system scan. Make sure the autoclean box is checked!
Save the scan log and post it along with the Ewido Log by using Add Reply.

Hi Mike,

This is what Microsoft says about your missing file - http://support.micro...om/?kbid=827073.

Any idea if you have .NET on your PC ?? I cant see it.

Looks like you have a bunch of virus cached in your mail box !!! Can you clear off the inbox and Sent items to the maximum extent possible???

Please also delete the file -C:\install.cab.

Let me know if your issue still continues.

I will check with others on the probable causes for the issue !!!

Thnaks for your message.
This is what Microsoft says about your missing file - http://support.micro...om/?kbid=827073. Does this mean I should read this and follow it? I have to say I don't find it easy to follow.
Any idea if you have .NET on your PC ?? I cant see it. Do you mean Microsoft Net? If yes I do appear to have two file folders called Microsoft.Net
As to the old files with Viruses these have been cleaned do they have to be deleted? If yes I can't seem to find them!?
How do I install C:\install.cab? When I search for this file I can't find it.
Unfortunately although my PC is working the original issues remain.
Thanks and Regards

*Click here and download Killbox by Option^Explicit.
*Extract the program to your desktop and double-click on its folder, then double-click on Killbox.exe to start the program.
*In the killbox program, select the Delete on Reboot option.
*In the Full Path for File to Delete box enter:
C:\install.cab
*Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard".
*Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "No" at the Pending Operations prompt.

Let the computer reboot.

Download Track qoo and unzip it to a place where you can easily find it.
Reboot into safe mode and double-click on "Track qoo.vbs"

Note - If your Antivirus has Script Blocking, you will get a Pop Up Windows asking you what to do. Allow this Entire Script to Run, its harmless!

Wait a few seconds and a notepad page will pop up, Copy & Paste those results and place them in the next post.

Regards,
