no c drive to boot from

Toshiba satellite pro 420cdt, i can only use the A drive, tried various things, reload windows, says c drive not there, load boot disk, no c drive,. I think i told it did not want drive in error, not very good at this stuff really. How can i get it to recgognise c drive, is it locked? if so how do i unlock it ,or have i totally broken it and need a new hardrive. Any ideas welcom

Sounds like your hard drive may have died. Try seeing if the hard drive is identified in the BIOS. You probably enter your BIOS by tapping F2 immediatley after startup.
