Hi

My PC got infected the other day with the anti virus gold infection that I have been battling to clear. I have been reading through some of the other threads here and following the advice, which has been great as it seems to have cleared some of the problems.

I was getting an icon on the taskbar (red circle with an x in it) that when you double clicked tried to install a programme called Anti virus gold. There was also a red circle with a ! in it which tried to launch PS Guard.

I have downloaded ewido and run that, along with ad aware, spybot, killbot and cleanup. Following advice on another thread I also downloaded and used avgoldfix.reg

Although the programmes are no longer detecting a virus my PC is running at a fraction at the speed it was before and under my display settings the tabs for desktop and screen themes have gone. Also the windows security centre that came on the machine is disabled and i can't turn the firewall on.

Hope you can help . Here is my Hijack this log

Welcome to GTG.

Download smitRem.zip and save the file to your desktop.
Right click on the file and extract it to it's own folder on the desktop.

Place a shortcut to Panda ActiveScan on your desktop.

Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/

Please read Ewido Setup Instructions
Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

If you have not already installed Ad-Aware SE 1.06, follow these download and setup instructions, otherwise, check for updates:
Ad-Aware SE Setup
Don't run it yet!

Next, please reboot your computer in SafeMode by doing the following:
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.
Now scan with HJT and place a checkmark next to each of the following items:
===================================================
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://red.clientapp...//www.yahoo.com
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapp...rch/search.html
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://red.clientapp...://my.yahoo.com
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://red.clientapp...//www.yahoo.com
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = c:\windows\SYSTEM\blank.htm
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [HDAudio Driver 1.0] C:\WINDOWS\system32\lfiznvl.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Communicator] C:\WINDOWS\fw_304.exe /i
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [HDAudio Driver 2.0] C:\WINDOWS\system32\qyxykvsf.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Fast Start] C:\WINDOWS\system32\svcnt.exe home

===================================================

Open the smitRem folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.

Delete these files if found:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\lfiznvl.exe
C:\WINDOWS\fw_304.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\qyxykvsf.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\svcnt.exe

The tool will create a log named smitfiles.txt in the root of your drive, eg; Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

Open Ad-aware and do a full scan. Remove all it finds.

Run Ewido:
  • Click on scanner
  • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • NOTE: During some scans with ewido it is finding cases of false positives.
  • You will need to step through the process of cleaning files one-by-one.
  • If ewido detects a file you KNOW to be legitimate, select none as the action.
  • DO NOT select "Perform action on all infections"
  • If you are unsure of any entry found select none for now.
  • When the scan is finished, click the Save report button at the bottom of the screen.
  • Save the report to your desktop
Close Ewido

Next go to Control Panel click Display > Desktop > Customize Desktop > Web > Uncheck "Security Info" if present.

Reboot back into Windows and click the Panda ActiveScan shortcut, then do a full system scan. Make sure the autoclean box is checked!
Save the scan log and post it along with a new HijackThis Log, the contents of the smitfiles.txt log and the Ewido Log by using Add Reply.
Let us know if any problems persist.

Hi

Thanks for your help. Much appreciated :tazz:

Has taken a while but have run through all of those programmes and ewido and panda scan picked up a few more viruses on their latest runs.

Panda also picked up a file which it wanted me to send off for analysis - c_cat.exe not sure what this is.

The PC is still running pretty slow so am not sure if there is still a problem?

Attached below are a copy of the logs:-

Let's see if we can speed things up by disabling some unnecessary programs from startup:

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to Start->Run and type in regedit and hit OK. Go to File->Export and save the registry somewhere as a backup. While in the Registry Editor, navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ and delete SHUDDERLTD

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\INTERNET EXPLORER\ACTIVEX COMPATIBILITY\ and delete {53F066F0-A4C0-4F46-83EB-2DFD03F938CF}

If any of the above registry keys are giving you problems deleting, right click on them and click on Permissions. Then click on the Advanced button. Make sure the first box (Inherit from parent...) is checked. Click OK and OK. Then try deleting the entry again. Once you're done, close the Registry Editor.

Download KillBox http://www.greyknigh...spy/KillBox.exe. Run KillBox and check the box that says 'End Explorer Shell While Killing File'. Next click on 'Delete on Reboot'. Copy the below files and go back to KillBox. Go to File->Paste from Clipboard and then hit the button with a red circle and white X. Confirm to delete and when asked if you want to reboot, say no:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\shdocsv.dll
C:\Documents and Settings\Kevin\c_cat.exe

Check and fix these in HijackThis:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [msnappau] "C:\Program Files\MSN Apps\Updater\01.02.3000.1001\en-gb\msnappau.exe"

Ho hum...failed at the first hurdle :tazz:

Got into regedit, but it wouldn't let me delete SHUDDERLTD. Went to the advanced options as suggested, but the parent option was already checked. Kept getting an error when trying to delete the folder.

There were 3 sub folders under SHUDDERLTD - PSGUARD, PSGUARD (again) and LICENSE. The bottom level folder (LICENSE) it won't even allow me to view. Says 'Cannot open license: error while opening key'

Any suggestions on how to delete these folders?

Thanks

Did you do this yet?

If any of the above registry keys are giving you problems deleting, right click on them and click on Permissions. Then click on the Advanced button. Make sure the first box (Inherit from parent...) is checked. Click OK and OK. Then try deleting the entry again. Once you're done, close the Registry Editor.

Yes, thats what I was saying, unfortunately it doesn't seem to have worked. I clicked on Permissions then clicked on the Advance button and the first box (Inherit from parent...) was already checked. Clicked ok to get out, but wouldn't let me delete the files.

Any other ideas how i can delete this ?

OK, instead of using regedit, go to Start->Run and type in regedt32 and hit OK. Try deleting it from there.

I'm awaiting for the fix. This is a stubborn one.

If you don't get a reply back from me within a day or so, post back so I see your topic in my subscriptions.

There you are ;)

Glad you replied back there. I lost track of your posts :tazz:

Yes, we have got a fix for it now but I can't post it in the public (since the author has not given permission to do so yet). So we will have to work on this using PM only. I will send you a PM now. Only reply back using PM, do not post anything here unless I ask here first.

OK, let's try this then:

Run both these scans:
Run an online virus scan at TrendMicro http://uk.trendmicro...call_launch.php. Just follow the instructions on the site to run the free online scan. If any viruses/trojans are detected, try to delete or clean them in that site. If any are not cleanable, copy and paste the infected files here. You may also use Panda ActiveScan at http://www.pandasoft...ucts/activescan. Post the log from the Panda scan here.

Also give me this log:

Right click on http://www.silentrun...ent Runners.vbs and choose Save As...Save it to your Desktop. Make sure you have disabled any programs that may block/disable scripts (ex: Ad-Watch, TeaTimer, Norton, etc.). Double click on 'Silent Runners' to run it. This will take a few minutes. It will create a file called 'Startup Programs' followed by your computer name and current date. Open up that file and post all the contents here in your next post.

Hiya

Have run the virus scanner and pleased to report a clean bill of health (no viruses picked up).

Please find below the log from silen runners, hopefully it may shed some light on why my PC has been running so much slower since the original virus has been deleted:-
