Ok this is going to be a long story, but i hope you guys can help me, i've spent the past 6 hours trying to fix this..

I bought a new PC...

2.8 GHZ pentium D
Asus P5LD2 Motherboard
1GB Corsair Ram (2x512mb)
Maxtor 250GB HD 6L250S0
Chaintech Geforce 6800 ULTRA
on board sound...

WHen i set it up at firs ti installed windows xp x64 edition it worked like a dream (no need for raid drivers, or anything externally), everything was setup and i started using it as normal.

Recently i installed Battlefield 2, but it kept crashing during game play every 5 mins, taking me to desktop and exiting the game. Therefore i decided ok maybe its the x64 so i restarted the pc inserted my windows sp2 disc and started install, it went through installling all the drivers but once it finished and went on to say "starting windows" a moment later a blue screen appeared with the error 0x0000007b and nothing more.... askign to check my HD for viruses etc etc

SInce then i have tried EVERYTHING to install windows or even get setup to work but it wont, i personally thinkig the problem started when i partitioned my HD partition magic gave me an error no. #007 but i ignore dit, ti was creating the partitions but stopped jsut before formatting them so i did that my self..

NOW! i want to play BF2 and have Windows SP2 Installed ;) but it wont work!!!! IF ANYONE CAN HELP ME PLEASE DO IVE TRIED SOOO HARD...

ps.. i updated the bios + MB drivers + Chipset drivers + GFX card drivers...

any ideas guys? :tazz:

The thing is that is all well and good, now when i even go to install windows xp x64 edition again (just to check if the installtion process works) the same error occurs in the same way. although i have my OS working perfectly, i would much rather be on SP2!

Thank you for your help Johanna, although anymore would just as apericiated!!!!

Given xp64's driver base is fairly small and mostly untested, and given it's a new game, I guess I am not surprised.

Using either windows xp 32 or 64 as your bootdisk, how far does the system get before crapping out?

I would, if possible, use the setup program to delete the partition, then use windows xp sp2 cd to create the partition, format and install.

The setup program just loads the drivers, and before it gets to ANYWHERE remotely classed as setup just as the drivers are finsihed being copied it dies... pr gives the error mentioned above! just as it goes to the "windows is starting" int he bottom left hand side, where the driver file names are displayed.

No floppy disc, but it can be added.

ummm memory wise i was about to run the memtest86 but haven't done that yet, although i tried using each of the RAM modules on their own and they both work fine, as in OS wise, but install still doesnt work...if there was rpoblem withte memory wouldn't it show up in normal windows?! while its running?!

GC : ASUS 6600 PCI-ex
HD : Maxtor 250 GB SATA

But it's the first time i would install my PC.

I never install OS on it before.
