Ok, I have installed and ran all of the programs recommended on the start here page. I tweaked ad aware, ran cleanup, spy bot, cwshredder, trend housecall, and have installed ewido security suite (which keeps popping up warning for several things it's finding...one of those being ojnapn.exe). I'm going to post my hijack this log and my ewido security log here. Hopefully someone can help me. This is my wife's laptop and it has windows xp (and I did install that update too, the sp1a one) which I am not as familiar with. If anyone can help me, THANK YOU SO MUCH...oh yeah, and I do have norton antivirus (subscription ran out about 2 months ago :tazz: )...

Hi Cato. Sorry you were missed in your original post. We'll take care of it now, though. ;)

Could you do two things for me now?

Run ewido again and post the results in this thread, and also run a new hijack this log and copy and paste it here too. :tazz:

Please Download the following tools to assist us in removing this infection!
  • Download WinPFind
    • Right Click the Zip Folder and Select "Extract All"
    • Extract it somewhere you will remember like the Desktop
    • Dont do anything with it yet!
  • Download Track qoo
    • Save it somewhere you will remember like the Desktop
Reboot into Safe Mode
Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

Doubleclick WinPFind.exe
  • Click "Start Scan"
  • It will scan the entire System, so please be patient!
  • Once the Scan is Complete
  • Go to the WinPFind folder
  • Locate WinPFind.txt
  • Place those results in the next post!
Reboot back to Normal Mode!

Double Click on "Track qoo.vbs"

Note - If you Antivirus has Script Blocking, you will get a Pop Up Windows asking you what to do. Allow this Entire Script to Run, its harmless!

Wait a few seconds and a notepad page will pop up, Copy & Paste those results and place them in the next post along with the results of WinPFind!

ok, I have the winpfind log, however when I click on "track qoo" it tell me I don't have permission to use this. I tried logging out and back in and clicking again and came up with the same result. Is there maybe another link or site I can download this from?

Thanks...Cato

Here is the winpfind log:

WARNING: not all files found by this scanner are bad. Consult with a knowledgable person before proceeding.

If you see a message in the titlebar saying "Not responding..." you can ignore it. Windows somethimes displays this message due to the high volume of disk I/O. As long as the hard disk light is flashing, the program is still working properly.

yeah, I tried logging out and back in to download it before. It says I do not have permission for this even when I'm logged in. Is it possible that there is a problem specific to this file on the site? Is there another program that I may have access to? It seems from doing a search about this file and reading about it that I'm not he only one having problems downloading the file. I wonder if the link that they gave you might be slightly off? If you have any other site link that has the file, I'd love to try to get it through that.

Hi Cato. I have never cleaned this infection, so I've spent a couple of hours studying the best way to do it. I need to get a few things done, so it may be tonight before I give you a fix. Hang in there. We have a fix, I just need to fully understand it before I apply it to your case. Thanks for your patience. :tazz:

You just happened to draw the short straw this time: it's definitely fixable and it won't be difficult. I just have to play with the registry and that gives me the heebie-jeebies. I'll have someone check it out before I have you do it though. :tazz:

well, I can't wait to see how to fix it...just tell me what I have to do because it's been causing explorer to stop responding more and more frequently. Thanks.

I am working on it right now. I printed out the fix and I'm looking at your logs. Playing with the registry is not my favorite thing to do, so I want to nail it. Give me an hour or so.

OK. Several steps we need to do.

Make sure you close the control panel and all open folders.

Please download ewido security suite here it is a free version of the program.

1. Install ewido security suite
2. When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck..
* Install background guard
* Install scan via context menu
3. Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop, double-click it.
4. The program will now open to the main screen.
5. When you run ewido for the first time, you will get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.
6. You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
* On the left hand side of the main screen click update.
* Then click on Start Update.
7. The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
(the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")
8. Exit ewido. DO NOT scan yet.

Reboot into safe mode. (lightly tap f8 when it reboots)

Now open ewido and do a scan of your system.

* Click on scanner
* Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
* NOTE: During some scans with ewido it is finding cases of false positives.**
o You will need to step through the process of cleaning files one-by-one.
o If ewido detects a file you KNOW to be legitimate, select none as the action.
o DO NOT select "Perform action on all infections"
o If you are unsure of any entry found select none for now as the action.
* Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
* Click Save report.
* Save the report .txt file to your desktop or a location where you can find it easily.

If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update ewido.

Give me the ewido log and a new hijack this log. And, again, I apologize. :tazz:
