“screen.html. The problem is that my computer is running it on the desktop (blank background, flashing white and grey). My normal desktop background is 'underneath' it, this thing just fires up same time as icons loading on to desktop.”

My desktop image has been replaced all my desktop icons still work there’s just this flashing white an grey/cream image behind them
When I restart my comp I can see my desktop image for a second before shut down i have tryed everything i know

I have run:
Ad-aware SE
CWShredder
Spybot S&D
Trend Housecall
AVG
CleanUp!
TDS-3

I have deleted everything they recommended
Some of the files that house call found couldn’t be deleted I re-booted an killed them in safe mode

When I right click on my desktop (the html flashing thing) and go to properties it says:

Protocol: File Protocol

Type: HTML Document

Connection: Not Encrypted

Address (URL): file://C:\WINDOWS\screen.html
All the other fields say: not available

When I go to view source it loads a notepad.txt file called: C__WINDOWS_screen[1] (some times it has a [2] instead of the 1)
Inside in the text field is:

<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN">
<!----
***** This file is automatically generated by Microsoft Windows *****

frameBorder=0 scrolling=no subscribed_url="" resizeable=""> </IFRAME>
<OBJECT id=ActiveDesktopMover
style="LEFT: 0px; VISIBILITY: hidden; WIDTH: 0px; POSITION: absolute; TOP: 0px; HEIGHT: 0px; container: positioned; zIndex: 5"

classid=clsid:72267F6A-A6F9-11D0-BC94-00C04FB67863></OBJECT>&nbsp;
</BODY></HTML>

I have looked in windows for the screen.html it is not there
I have tried to go to settings to see if I can change it this way only to discover
I am locked out It only comes up with options to change the screen saver an the colour resolution

Please help me

Okay I have figured out how to kill the screen.html permanently
You click at the top near the right of the screen and drag it down to the lower left
Click on the little cross
Now if you have already deleted the screen.html file from your temp Internet
Then when you restart your comp it will not appear
An should never load up again

Now as for the other trouble
My display properties are still gone

I still only have screen saver an settings tab
The other three tabs are missing

how do i get them back
or must i reinstall XP
an put up with windows messenger again :tazz:
