Hi, thought I'd check here for a green light on viruses/adware before going to a hardware / o/s forum:

All "Start Here" remedies performed with some adware deletions.

Still few pop-us (even w/o IE running) & computer stops to think frozen for long spells (2 mins) often. Excite is home page, is it possible we subscribed here for some pop-ups?

Note: this 98SE computer had potentially 1 virus and some adware about 6 months ago and not knowing better at the time, I was advised by someone to simply re-instal Windows 98 as a cure and to rid all. Well, the computer was restored from a blue-screen situation, but doesn't seem to be quite itself. For example, I can't browse the network neighborhood now and can't find settings there that look wrong. Also, the hard drive seems to be making a different noise in the last month. 1 bad thing, the C drive has only 3 gigs free of 19 - (I did do CleanUp! though) I have digital video files which I am moving to a remote drive tonight, then eventually I should defrag / clean. Meanwhile, the pop-up and slow problem described above remain.

I am including HJT log below.

one interesting note: the Panda Active scan ran but the Trend Micro scan crashed the computer with a black screen 72% progress both times. FYI Windows update says there are no updates for me.

Thank you for your time!
