I've been looking around other topics already made for help on this, because I have a similar situation to the Safe Mode thread, but I don't think it's exactly the same. Let me explain myself.

When my computer was acting normal, I put a computer game into one of my disk drives. I'm thinking I put it in the wrong one, because my computer froze up. I put it in the E drive. So, it froze and I restarted it with ctrl alt delete, and it came up in safe mode, and I can't get it out. There are no coloring problems I don't believe... I mean, the colors are duller and fuzzy, but I think that's just the safe mode, so it's not a virus I don't think. At first I couldn't get my messaging program to work, but after a few restarts it's loading again, though slow and messed up. I just don't know how to get it out of safe mode and back to normal. I tried restarting and pressing control and entered in 1 for normal, but that didn't do anything. I don't know how to work in MS-DOS mode really either... Some computer specifics if I'll be helpful, I'm on Windows 98, Computer: Pentium® II Processor.

Someone please help, this is driving me nuts. D:

Okay... maybe it's not safe mode. Trying to fix this still, I deliberately set it into safe mode, and when that happened it came up with a green screen. When I restart, my normal back ground and everything comes up. For awhile it just came up with a tiny resolution, making the icons look huge and stuff like safe mode does. I put it back in my normal resolution and it seems more correct... visual wise. The only things I can really see now is that there are a few desktop icons that are discolored a bit, but not all of them, and my messaging system, trillian, the loading screen and buddy list is discolored and the program isn't working right. Is it possible that just that just a few of my programs have messed up from what I did and explained above? And... how should I find out which things are wrong, and then fix them... Would uninstalling and then reinstalling my trillian program do anything?

This is a lot more stuff than before now, I know, and it's not exactly the same topic as I originally posted. Still, I could really use someone's help, input on anything, so some one please reply to this.

Thank you. :tazz:

And... I don't even know what those are. Or where to find them... yeah.

I'm scanning my computer for viruses right now, and not finding anything yet, which is good, but doesn't help me figure out just what's wrong.

And whenever i put a window up or down the background image color distorts temporarily... if that means anything.

You need to find out what your system uses for a video card.. That info should be on your system specs that you got when you purchased the system or, you can search your system on the manufacturers website!!

What's the video card supposed to do? I'm not trying to get my game going anymore, I'm just trying to get my regular computer set up back to normal...

This is my dad's old computer, unless the system specs are somewhere on the computer, they probably can't be found.

And I went to the windows media website, but don't know exactly where I'm supposed to look for this... I'm so sorry, I'm horrible with this stuff. x.x

Another question sorta, the programs that I know aren't working right, would it be safe to uninstall and reinstall the program if I can? Or should I not doing anything until I know my computer over all is working right...

I'm wondering if it's possible for the computer to be 'low' on something? but I don't know what to do for that either.

Your "video card" is what gives you the picture on the monitor.. No video card, nothing on the monitor.. Bad video card drivers or missing video card drivers equals very poor quality picture..

Download and run the Everest Post the part of the log that refers to VIDEO..

You can try to uninstall and re-install the programs using the Add/Remove Programs option or the programs own un-installer.. That won't make any difference to your video problem..

Alright, I downloaded it and have it up... I don't understand what I'm supposed to do with it though. It has aaaaall these sub options thingers... I don't know which one to run, or how to run it correctly, 'cause I just clicked something on it and it made my screen black out for a moment. DirectX has something that says video, is that the one I need? I don't want this to mess up my computer more from that black out...

I downloaded and instaled what you just gave me, and I'm really not certian it did anything at all. I took this screen shot to better show the kind of color problems I'm having... http://i2.photobucke...scoloration.gif

Have you checked to see if you have a different theme set in your "appearance" option??

Yeah, I fixed my appearance settings a decent while ago, which didn't change a lot. I don't know why they changed to begin with but...

Wow... just, wow.

I'm not sure how it happened, but I think my computer is alright again. Between everything that you sent me and getting rid of some spyware on my own... things look good again. Trillian is working... only thing I might still have to worry about is maybe system resources and being 'low' again. Going to another website a message came up that I was "at the top level" and I haven't seen one of those in forever... but I guess that I'm fine.

Murray, thank you so much for putting up with me and helping me out today. Um, I'll post again if problems still come up, I guess. THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH.

Eh, edit already.

Got another at the top level, close windows pop up again, and I've only got like three windows up. Is there something I can maybe do about this now?

The biggest reason for low system resources and the problems it causes is to many programs open and running at the same time!!

What's all running on your system when this happens - icons in SysTray and programs you have open and running??
