Hello there

I am trying to sort out a computer and it is in a really terrible state. AVG says there are 8 infections and they can't be fixed. Norton just doesn't respond and I can't seem to download automatic updates due to the computer problems. When I open IE it automatically tries to access a [bleep] site. I hope someone can help :tazz:

Here is the Hijack this log:Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1

Hello,

It's better to print out the next instructions or save it in notepad, because you also have to work in safe mode without networking support, so this page wouldn't be available then.
It is also important you don't miss a step and perform everything in the right order!!

First of all... you're having AVG and Norton. Never install more than one antivirusscanner or firewall on your system! Several together can give problems and decreases the reliability of it seriously!
So I strongly suggest you uninstall one of them. Maybe keep AVG. :tazz:

* Download and install CCleaner
Do not use it yet.

* Please set your system to show all files; please see here if you're unsure how to do this.

* Download LQfix.zip
Unzip it and save it to your desktop, don't use it yet!!

* Start HijackThis, close all open windows leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MOJNPluginSrIvcs] neomonap23.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ITUNES] itunes.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [msxct] msxct.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Windows-XP-Service-Pack] xpspz.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [msmc] C:\WINDOWS\System32\msmc.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [checkrun] C:\windows\system32\elitersk32.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MS taskbar] taskbars.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Microsoft Application Center] mappc.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Preview AdService] C:\Program Files\Preview AdService\PrevAdServ.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [eovhgmk] c:\windows\system32\behumh.exe r
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [MOJNPluginSrIvcs] neomonap23.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [ITUNES] itunes.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Windows-XP-Service-Pack] xpspz.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [MS taskbar] taskbars.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Microsoft Application Center] mappc.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MOJNPluginSrIvcs] neomonap23.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Windows-XP-Service-Pack] xpspz.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MS taskbar] taskbars.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Microsoft Application Center] mappc.exe
O16 - DPF: {640B39C1-D713-464F-92C3-75BD972B95EE} - http://sidestep.com/...00719/sb02a.cab
O23 - Service: System Startup Service (SvcProc) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\svcproc.exe (file missing)

* Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

* Reboot into Safe Mode`: ( without networking support !)
°To get into the Safe mode as the computer is booting press and hold your "F8 Key". Use your arrow keys to move to "Safe Mode" and press your Enter key.

* Doubleclick LQfix.bat that you saved on your desktop before.
A doswindow will open and close again, this is normal.

* Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders, and delete them if still present:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\msxct.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\taskbars.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\mappc.exe
C:\Program Files\Preview AdService <== folder
C:\WINDOWS\System32\msmc.exe

* Go to start > run and type: sc delete SvcProc
Cick OK

* Still in safe mode Run Ccleaner and click Run Cleaner (bottom right)

* Reboot your system back to normal mode.

Perform an onlinescan with panda: (please use this scanner instead of any other scanner!)
http://www.pandasoft...n_principal.htm
Check: All my computer
Make sure everything is checked in the scan options.

Post the log/results from the onlinescan in your next reply together with a new hijackthislog.

Hi there

first of all thank you for all your help so far. I followed your instructions but wasn't able to do a Panda scan as my browser keeps crashing it got some of the way identifying 19 infections. I have a browser hijacker which goes to S3xy.bz and something else wanting to download female avatars. Sorry for not being able to complete the scan but I think everything else went OK. Many thanks for all your help :tazz: i would also like to learn how to do this to help others. Any advice?

Hi,

You really need to uninstall one of your antivirus though, because this generates errors and decreases the reliability of it seriously as I said before!

Were you able to delete all the files I asked you to delete manually?

I still see C:\WINDOWS\System32\mappc.exe present and active.

Ok,
First of all, I want you to download and install another browser, because for the moment I strongly suggest NOT to use Internet Explorer, because everytime you open it, new malware is getting downloaded.
So, I want you to use Firefox instead to browse the web.
When your system is clean again, you can use your IE again.
Here you can find firefox to download: http://www.mozilla.o...oducts/firefox/

* Start HijackThis, close all open windows leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Preview AdService] C:\Program Files\Preview AdService\PrevAdServ.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Microsoft Application Center] mappc.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Microsoft Application Center] mappc.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Microsoft Application Center] mappc.exe

* Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

* Using Windows Explorer, locate the following file and delete it:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\mappc.exe

Use next onlinescanner (works with firefox): http://fr.trendmicro...call_launch.php

REBOOT!

I want to know what it is, so can you go to next site:
http://virusscan.jotti.org/

On top you'll find: File to upload and scan.
Now browse to the next file:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\timesync.exe

Click submit and let it scan.
Post the results in your next reply with a new hijackthislog.

Hi there

I uninstalled AVG and installed firefox. Things seem to be a lot better without IE :tazz:. I did a search but could not find mappc. I did find a mappc pf file which I deleted. Housecall told me I had trojan downloader: freecontentz.exe. The computer crashed after running this. Only one infection in total but did not clean it. Jotti said timesync was suspicious but no problem found. SP2 is wating to be installed. Should i install it now? Many thanks for all your help ;)

Hello,

Your log looks Ok, but I'm still concerned about that C:\WINDOWS\System32\mappc.exe
Because it was active in your previous log though and you couldn't find it, so it must be still there.

Are you sure you have your hidden files and folders set to visible?
To do this, perform next:

* Click Start.
* Open My Computer.
* Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
* Select the View Tab.
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
* Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Uncheck the Hide file extensions for known file types.
* Click Yes to confirm.
* Click OK.

Check again if that C:\WINDOWS\System32\mappc.exe is present and delete it.
Also search for that freecontentz.exe and delete it.

How are things running now?
Yes, you may install SP2 :tazz:

What happens exactly if you click on the IE-icon?
Also look in next folder: C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe and click on that.
Can you tell me what errors you exactly get?

Aaah, now I understand.
Well, it must be something in your IE settings though. You can surf with firefox.
Also check in your sygate if you didn't block internet explorer. Or just turn off your sygate and check if you can connect then. If so, you need to change some settings in your firewall.
Set everything to default in IE.
Also look under the tab connections in your Internet options. :tazz:
