CasperXP
Norton Ghost

I actually use and like CasperXP. It's quick and painless.

But if you bought a drive, even if it's OEM and not from a store, you can go to the drive makers website and download their software for free. Most site links go like

www.brandname.com

or at least they have redirect pages.

I only saw Disk Manager on the Kroll Ontrack site, but it isn't freeware. I beleive I've seen some utility than can be put on a floppy and used for drive to drive copy, and it was freeware.

I think the casper xp is what i need. I have two internal hard drives. I just got the 32gb for free and i have an external case to put that in and that will hook into my usb port.

Now my question is, using the casper xp, do i need an OS already installed on the new hard drive to be able to clone my hard drive to it?

No the hard drive can be blank. If it has data, the data will be overwritten.

CasperXP runs from windows. Once you launch the program, you will be guided by a wizard. Just read the prompts and respond accordingly.

Casper can clone either an entire hard drive, of just certain partitions. Read the online documentation Faqs, etc.

It's an easy program to use, and is quite straightfoward.

By the way, Hitachi no longer offers their hard disk manager as an online download. You have to give them a call, or email if you want that software. They sent it to me in about a week. I know this because my Thinkpad and Compaq laptops both use Travelstars! :tazz:
