jocker.exe and msdirectx.sys trojans [CLOSED]

I recently clicked a link i shouldnt have in AIM, and it gave me two trojans, jocker.exe and msdirectx.sys
I have been able to detect these, using AVG Virus Software, and delete them, but when i restart, the files return.

You are advised to temporarily DISABLE the following Protection Programs, if they are running:

This will likely be a few step process in removing the malware that has infected your system.  I encourage you to stick with it and follow my directions as closely as possible so as to avoid complicating the problem further. Trust me!


Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite 3.5 here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/

Please read Ewido Setup Instructions
Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

Reboot in SAFE MODE. (How to boot in Safe Mode...)

Please close all remaining windows, disconnect from the internet, open HijackThis then click SCAN. Please put a check on the following items listed below:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [stratas] xmconfig.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [stratas] xmconfig.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [stratas] xmconfig.exe

Make sure to double check the items you have selected, then click Fix Checked.

Run Ewido:
  • Click on scanner
  • Click Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • During the scan it will prompt you to clean files, click OK
  • When it asks if you want to clean the first file, put a check in the lower left corner of the box that says "Perform action on all infections" then choose clean and click OK.
  • When the scan is finished, click the Save report button at the bottom of the screen.
  • Save the report to your desktop
Close Ewido

Be sure to View Hidden and System Files.

Through Windows Explorer, delete the following folder(s) or files(s) if they exist (in bold):
  • C:\WINDOWS\system32\xmconfig.exe
Finally, Empty Recycle Bin

Reboot back to NORMAL MODE.

Have an On-line scan at this sites: Trend Micro or
Panda Scan or BitDefender.
  • Close all windows, open HijackThis then SCAN.
  • Post a NEW HijackThis Log.
  • Post the results from Ewido
  • Post the results from the Online Scans.
  • Please tell me how your system is working now.

  • Spybot S&D : Tea Timer

    *  Open up Spybot S&D
    *  Click Mode > Advance Mode
    *  Tools > Residents
    *  UNCHECK Tea Timer
    *  Close Spybot
(Note: We will re-ENABLE them later after your system is all clean and malware free.)


A.) If you have not already installed Ad-Aware SE 1.06, follow these download and setup instructions, otherwise, check for updates:
Ad-Aware SE Setup
Do NOT run the scan yet!

B.) The latest Spybot S&D shoulde be Spybot 1.4

1. In the Menu Bar at the top of the Spybot window you will see 'Mode'. Make certain that 'default mode' has a check mark beside it.
2. Close ALL windows except Spybot S&D
3. Click the button to ‘Search for Updates’ then download and install the Updates.
4. Once the update is complete, do NOT run the scans yet.
5. Close Spybot S&D

C.) Download and install Trojan Hunter: http://www.snapfiles.com/get/trojanhunter.html
Download all available updates
Close Trojan Hunter

D.) Please Download the stand-alone version of [ CoolWebShredder ]

Update CWShredder
  • Open CWShredder and click I AGREE
  • Click Check For Update
  • Close CWShredder
E.) Please download this to your desktop: http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/FxIstbar.exe
Do NOT run it yet.

Reboot in SAFE MODE. (How to boot in Safe Mode...)

Please close all remaining windows, disconnect from the internet, open HijackThis then click SCAN. Please put a check on the following items listed below:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [stratas] xmconfig.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [stratas] xmconfig.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [stratas] xmconfig.exe

Make sure to double check the items you have selected, then click Fix Checked.

Run the FxIstbar.exe by double-clicking it.

Now run CWShredder. Click I Agree, then Fix and then Next, let it fix everything it asks about.

Open Ad-aware and do a full scan. Remove all it finds.
Save a report.

1. Open Spybot, next click the button ‘Check for Problems'
2. When Spybot is complete, it will be showing ‘RED’ entries bold 'Black' Entries and ‘GREEN’ entries in the window
3. Make certain there is a check mark beside all of the RED entries ONLY.
4. Choose ‘Fix Selected Problems’ and allow Spybot to fix the RED entries.
5. REBOOT to complete the scan and clear memory.

Open Trojan Hunter
Put a check mark on the boxes for My Computer as well as Desktop (This will automatically put checks on all other boxes)
Do a Full System Scan.

Be sure to View Hidden and System Files.

Through Windows Explorer, delete the following folder(s) or files(s) if they exist (in bold):
  • C:\WINDOWS\system32\xmconfig.exe
Finally, Empty Recycle Bin

Reboot back to NORMAL MODE.

Run FxIstbar.exe again for the second time.
  • Close all windows, open HijackThis then SCAN.
  • Post a NEW HijackThis Log.
  • Post a report from Ad-Aware and Spybot
  • Post a report from Trojan Hunter
  • Please tell me how your system is working now.
