hello:

I've managed to get my computer infected with some particularly nasty spyware that won't go away. the three main culprits are:

Booked Space
E Bates Moe Money Maker
Elitum Elite Bar

I have Windows ME, have up to date versions of Ad-Aware SE Personal, Spybot Search and Destroy, and CSWsearch. I also have Symantec Antivirus, which does a great job of finding all of the files that are infected, but doesn't seem to be able to clean anything.
Anyway, I try to eliminate the above mentioned programs and they naturally come back each time I reboot. I have certain programs that run extremely slow (Microsoft Excel), Popups, and have certain problems with java when I try to click on some links online (I was unable to search for new downloads on Windows Update). I've pretty much exhausted all of my options outside of tearing apart my computer to install Windows XP and I do not want to lose what files I have left on my computer. any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Also, I did recently download AVG Antivirus, which "healed" many of the viruses on my computer, but Ebates and Booked Space are still there.

Here is my "hijackthis.log" Thanks for your help

Scott

Hi gmhendge, welcome to GeeksToGo

Anti-Virus programs take up an enormous amount of your computer's resources when they are actively scanning your computer. Having two anti-virus programs running at the same time can cause your computer to run very slow, become unstable and even, in rare cases, crash.

If you choose to install more than one Anti-Virus program on your computer, then only one of them should be active in memory at a time.

There are basically two types of these programs:
On-Access and On-Demand

On-Access Scanners
As the name implies, are scanners that run in the background all the time the PC is turned on and running. The main function of an On-Access scanner is to monitor activity on your machine.

On-Demand Scanners
As the name implies, are scanners that only run when you ask them to.
Such as:
Online Scans and scanners that run on your machine but are not actively scanning your machine.

Please disable the realtime protection features of either Norton or AVG.

You are running Hijackthis from the zip folder, but Hijackthis should be in a permanent folder to save its backups in case we need to undo any changes.
  • Now double-click on the zip file containing the HijackThis.exe file. Select the HijackThis.exe, and hit the combination “Ctrl + C”.
  • Minimize the zipfolder, and go to My Computer. Double-click on C:/, then double-click on Program Files.
  • In the menu bar you’ll find “File”. Click it, then choose “New”, and then “Folder”.
  • Call this folder HijackThis. Double-click to open this – new – folder.
  • Now use the combination “Ctrl + V” to paste the HijackThis.exe into this folder. Now you can run Hijackthis safely from there when we need it.
Please Download the following tools to assist us in removing this infection!
  • Please download miekiemoes' LQfix batch here:
    http://www.downloads...m.org/LQfix.zip
Unzip it to the desktop but do NOT run it yet.
  • Download WinPFind
    • Right Click the Zip Folder and Select "Extract All"
    • Extract it somewhere you will remember like the Desktop
    • Dont do anything with it yet!
  • Download Track qoo
    • Save it somewhere you will remember like the Desktop
Reboot into Safe Mode
Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

Once in Safe Mode, please run LQfix.bat.

Doubleclick WinPFind.exe
  • Click "Start Scan"
  • It will scan the entire System, so please be patient!
  • Once the Scan is Complete
  • Go to the WinPFind folder
  • Locate WinPFind.txt
  • Place those results in the next post!
Reboot back to Normal Mode!

Double Click on "Track qoo.vbs"

Note - If your Antivirus has Script Blocking, you will get a Pop Up Windows asking you what to do. Allow this Entire Script to Run, its harmless!

Wait a few seconds and a notepad page will pop up, Copy & Paste those results and place them in the next post along with the results of WinPFind and a new Hijackthis log.

OK, here we go. AVG is gone and uninstalled.

Please note: I received this error when trying to run LQ Fix but the program seemed to run fine:

Cannot import clear.reg: Error opening file. There may be a disk or file system error.

regarding WinPFind

WARNING: not all files found by this scanner are bad. Consult with a knowledgable person before proceeding.

If you see a message in the titlebar saying "Not responding..." you can ignore it. Windows somethimes displays this message due to the high volume of disk I/O. As long as the hard disk light is flashing, the program is still working properly.

Hi gmhendge,

You may wish to save these instructions on Notepad as you will have to do some copying and pasting. Also part of this fix will be made in safe mode and you won't have access to this page.

Download Pocket KillBox from here. There is a Direct Download and a description of what the Program does inside this link.

Please open Notepad, and copy/paste the code in the box below into a new text file. Save it as KillQoo.reg (set Filetype to "All Files") and save it on your Desktop.Make sure there is no empty line above REGEDIT4.

REGEDIT4

[HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\Explorer\Run]
"ccvewvijc.exe"=-

Open Pocket Killbox and Copy & Paste the entries(each line one by one) below into the "Full Path of File to Delete"

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\PSof1.exe
C:\WINDOWS\CFGMGR52.DLL
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\DATADX.DLL
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\IPRSERV.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\ccvewvijc.exe

As you Paste each entry into Killbox, place a tick by any of these Selections available

"Delete on Reboot"
"Unregister .dll before Deleting"

Click the Red Circle with the White X in the Middle to Delete!

Restart in Safe Mode and Run those files through Killbox once more to be sure nothing survived.

This time place a tick by any of these selections available

"Standard File Kill"
"End Explorer Shell while Killing File"
"Unregister .dll before Deleting"

Now Locate and DoubleClick KillQoo.reg-> Allow it to merge into the Registry!

Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below if still present.

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page =
R3 - URLSearchHook: AOLTBSearch Class - {EA756889-2338-43DB-8F07-D1CA6FB9C90D} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: CExtension Object - {0019C3E2-DD48-4A6D-ABCD-8D32436323D9} - C:\WINDOWS\CFGMGR52.DLL
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [PSof1] C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\PSof1.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [cfgmgr52] RunDLL32.EXE C:\WINDOWS\CFGMGR52.DLL,DllRun
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [autoupdate] rundll32 C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\DATADX.DLL,SHStart
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Y357RXJ7g] IPRSERV.EXE
O15 - Trusted Zone: http://chat.msn.com
If you didn't put this in your trusted zone, fix it. If you did, leave it.

Now [b]close all windows other than HiJackThis
, then click Fix Checked.

Restart back in Normal Mode. Go here and make an online scan:

http://www.pandasoft...com/activescan/

Save the results and post it along with a new HijackThis log.

well, I got through most of your instructions but when I got to the pandaware site, I received had the following message in the lower left hand corner of my screen upon trying to scan my computer:

java script:pp(1,2,63);

There is something wrong with the javascript on my computer as a result of the malware/spyware whathaveyou. I did a search on google for a way to bypass the error, checked out a site
http://forums.spywar...php/t51431.html

and somebody had posted the full url for the scan as:

http://www.pandasoft...n_principal.htm

this brings me right back to the java script:pp(1,2,63); error

*************

also, I deleted/fixed the following from hijackthis.

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page =

you had typed

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page =

[b]are those two the same?

*******

so, while making progress with the directions, I need to resolve the javascript problem as well. By the way, Firefox (which has allowed me to access sites with no javascript problems) is not an acceptable browser on the panda site. Thanks!

on the plus side, I just ran ad-aware and booked space appears to be gone at last. Making great progress here, thanks again for your help so far. I'm curious about the javascript problem though.

Hi gmhendge

Yes you were correct in removing that entry. That extra b in brackets got there somehow while I was bolding those entries. That log looks clean to me now, but what I would like you to do is, use the computer for a while and reboot a few times while doing that. Then I'd like to see a final HijackThis log before giving you a clean bill malwarewise.

As for the javascript problem a Google search revealed instances of others having the exact error while trying to do a Panda scan. No solution was posted about the error though. While an uninstall and clean install of Java comes to mind, I'd like to hold off on that and refer you to the Windows forums on the board. You can start a new topic under Windows 95, 98, ME subforum stating that you got a clean bill from Malware Removal forum. The helpers there specialize in Windows problems just like we do in malware. But as I said please do some surfing and reboot a few times and then post a new log so that I can give you a clean bill from here. Also please tell me if you have any spyware problems left.

Regards,

Armodeluxe

I'll give it a week or so and then run another hijack log. The most important stuff was taking care of the malware, and for that I thank you and everybody else on here a lot. I'll touch base for an update soon.
