Hey, this is my first post and I came on here hoping maybe you could help, hopfully I wont give you guys too much info, but Ill give anything and everything that might help. I searched through your site and saw some other people had similar problems, so I tried to do this as best as I could by myself. I was infected with Bloodhound.W32.EP and another spyware that changed my background of my screen. I ran Ewido and similar and I think I may have gotten rid of the second problem, but I still have Bloodhound.W32.EP infecting C/WINDOWS/SYSTEM32/wininet.dll, and it wont let me fix it because it says access is denied. I was hoping you could help me determine if I have truly fixed the second problem and how I might be able to get rid of Bloodhound.

Thank you,

UPDATE: I think I got the bloodhound virus gone by downloading a clean version of wininet.dll, renaming the old infected version and deleting it before boot. But now it seems that I didnt get rid of the old spyware and it wont let me use IE (I use firefox so I can still check this thing). So now the main problem would be the spyware, which im guessing has something to do with the www.oneclichsearch.com stuff in the log but thats as far as I have gotten.

Hi Nicholas,

You still have a few infections on your PC. Lets get them first and then we will take care of wininet.dll file. BTW, wininet.dll is a critical windows file. Dont delete it. If you do that, it may disrupt the functioning of your PC.

First we will need to download a few tools that will help us in the removal of your problem.

Download about:buster by RubbeRDuckY Here.
Download CWShredder Here.
Download and install CleanUp! Here

Save all of these files somewhere you will remember like to the Desktop.

Update About:Buster
  • Unzip the contents of AboutBuster.zip and an AboutBuster directory will be created.
  • Navigate to the AboutBuster directory and double-click on AboutBuster.exe.
  • Click "OK" at the prompt with instructions.
  • Click "Update" and then "Check For Update" to begin the update process.
  • If any updates exist please download them by clicking "Download Update" then click the X to close that window.
  • Now close About:Buster
Update CWShredder
  • Open CWShredder and click I AGREE
  • Click Check For Update
  • Close CWShredder
Boot into Safe Mode:
Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

Please run about:buster by RubbeRDuckY:
  • Click Start and then OK to allow AboutBuster to scan for Alternate Data Streams.
  • Click Yes to allow it to shutdown explorer.exe.
  • It will begin to check your computer for malicious files. If it asks if you would like to do a second pass, allow it to do so.
  • When it has finished, click Save Log. Make sure you save it as I may need a copy of it later.
  • Reboot your computer into safe mode again
Run about:buster again following the same instructions as above, this time without the restart at the end

Now run CWShredder. Click I Agree, then Fix and then Next, let it fix everything it asks about.

Now run CleanUp!Reboot your computer into normal windows.

After all that, please post back with how things went as well as the logs requested and a new HiJackThis log

Hi Nicholas,

Yes I have seen that file and its buddies lurking on your PC !!!! Unfortunately we need to clean up rest of the bad files before addressing these files otherwise the fix doesnt work properly.

Please print out these instructions or copy them into a text file on your Desktop for easy access.

During the fix, u will be asked to fix some entries, delete some files or uninstall some programs. If in case, you do not see those entries / files / programs, please make a note of it. Continue with the fix and in your next post please inform me of all deviations from the fix prescribed.

1. Download Programs

Please download these programs and save them in a new folder on your desktop -

CleanUp
Ewido Security Suite

Install Ewido, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

smitRem.zip
Right click on the file and extract it to it's own folder on the desktop.

2. Clear Junk stuff

Click on Start ----> Run. Type Services.msc and hit enter. Locate the item - fcpexfhvlsyy - in the right hand pane. Right click on it and then click on properties. In the Startup Type, choose the option Disable.

Restart the PC in Safe Mode (repeatedly tap the F8 key when the PC is starting up).

3. Run Hijack This

Run Hijack This and click on scan. The following items need to be fixed -

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = about:blank
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://www.oneclicks...earch.php?qq=%1
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://www.oneclicks...es.com/bar.html
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://www.oneclicks...earch.php?qq=%1
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = http://www.oneclicks...earch.php?qq=%1
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch = http://www.oneclicks...earch.php?qq=%1
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://www.oneclicks...earch.php?qq=%1
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = http://www.oneclicksearches.com/
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {8A0764CB-7ADF-3E1F-4D38-9860A71D2827} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: VMHomepage Class - {FFFFFFFF-FFFF-FFFF-FFFF-FFFFFFFFFFFA} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\hpC743.tmp
O9 - Extra button: MoneySide - {E023F504-0C5A-4750-A1E7-A9046DEA8A21} - C:\Program Files\Microsoft Money\System\mnyviewer.dll (file missing)

Close all windows other than Hijack This. Check the boxes next to above items and click on Fix checked.

4. Delete Rogue files

Open Windows Explorer (right click on Start and then click on explore). Locate and delete the following folders and files -

C:\WINDOWS\System32\hpC743.tmp

5. Remove Smitfraud

Open the smitRem folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.

The tool will create a log named smitfiles.txt in the root of your drive, eg; Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

Next go to Control Panel click Display > Desktop > Customize Desktop > Web > Uncheck "Security Info" if present.

6. Finishing Up

Run CleanUp and delete all temp files including temporary internet files

Run Ewido full scan. Let it fix any items it finds.

Clear out the files in the Prefetch folder. Go to start> run> type into the box Prefetch and delete all the files in that folder. Dont delete the folder, only the files in it !!!!!!!!

Reboot the PC in Normal Mode.

Run Hijack This and post a fresh HJT log along with Ewido scan report.

Hi Nicholas,

Can you post the file - smitfiles.txt?? It should be located in c:\ folder. That would let me know about the disinfection status !!!

There a couple of minor things to be fixed -

Run Hijack This and click on scan. The following items need to be fixed -

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {8A0764CB-7ADF-3E1F-4D38-9860A71D2827} - (no file)
O16 - DPF: {DBA230D1-8467-4e69-987E-5FAE815A3B45} -

Close all windows other than Hijack This. Check the boxes next to above items and click on Fix checked.

Also let me know how your PC is behaving !!!! Any continuing issues with your PC ????

Hey, I did the hijackthis fix but I dont beleive it is letting me delete:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {8A0764CB-7ADF-3E1F-4D38-9860A71D2827} - (no file)

Here is the smitfile thing.

Also, my computer is running a little slower, from what I can tell. Now it seems that little flashlight that says it is looking around comes up more, but I dont know if thats because of this or not. Ewido hasnt come up with any more virus alerts, nor has Norton.

Hi Nicholas,

Download the attached file and extract the file - Regsrch.vbs - to your desktop. Double click on the extracted file. In the pop-up box copy and paste the following -

8A0764CB-7ADF-3E1F-4D38-9860A71D2827

The tool will search your registry for the incidence of this key.

Your anti-virus program may pop-up a warning. Let this file run. Be patient as searching the registry can take 2-3 minutes.

It will generate a log file. Post the contents of the log file back here

Download the attached file.

Open Windows Explorer. Click on Tools ---> Folder Options ----> View tab.

Uncheck the box next to the item - Hide extensions of known file types.

Now rename the file from Regsrch.txt to Regsrch.vbs.

Then use the file

I renamed it and such, whenever I double click it I get:

Script:C:\Documents and Settings\Nicholas Strong\Desktop\Regsrch.vbs
Line: 86
Char: 5
Error: Unexpected 'Sub'
Code: 800A03F8
Source: Microsoft VBScript compilation error

Copy the following into a new text file in Notepad. Save the file as 1.bat (make sure the Save as Type is set to All Files) -

regedit /e C:\text1.txt HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Browser Helper Objects\{8A0764CB-7ADF-3E1F-4D38-9860A71D2827}
regedit /e C:\text2.txt HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{8A0764CB-7ADF-3E1F-4D38-9860A71D2827}
type C:\text1.txt>>C:\look.txt
type C:\text2.txt>>C:\look.txt
del C:\text*.txt

Run 1.bat. It will generate a log file - C:\look.txt.

Copy the contents of that log file here in your next reply

I copied and pasted what you said, saved it and ran 1.bat, but when I looked at look.txt, it was empty.
