I have the w32/alemod.b.dll infection and was looking it up on the internet and found your site through another poster. I downloaded all the programs that are needed in this post.

http://www.geekstogo...are-t44805.html

I downloaded HijackThis as suggested and did a scan on my computer. If you could advise me what to click, I can follow the directions from the other post.

Nope, you did it right this time :tazz:

OK, since you don't have any Service Packs installed, I have to give you this speech also:

We can definitely help you, but first you need to help us. The first step in this process is to apply Service Pack 1a for Windows XP, or Service Pack 4 if you are running Win2k. Without this update, you're wide open to re-infection, and we're both just wasting our time.
Apply the update, reboot, and post a fresh Hijack This log.

No problem. Since that will take a while for you to download, you may do this for the time being so we can proceed with fixing up your computer:

Please go HERE (Microsoft website) using Internet Explorer (not Firefox or any other browser as they won't work)
  • Click on Windows Validation Assistant
  • Click on the Validate Now button.
  • Be patient while the ActiveX loads, do not click on any links.
  • Read the instructions on this page while it's loading. You will be prompted to install - click YES.
  • Enter your product key then click continue
  • When it says "Validation Complete" please click Continue to return to your previous activity
  • Copy what it says and paste it here.

This is what windows said...

Thank you for running the Windows Validation Assistant. It appears that your Windows Product Key is valid.

This is a strong indicator that your operating system is genuine, however the Windows Validation Assistant cannot make a final determination.

The benefits of genuine Windows software include greater reliability, faster access to updates, and overall richer experiences. Users of genuine Windows are also eligible to receive special offers as part of the Windows Genuine Advantage program.

To verify that you received a genuine Certificate of Authenticity and software CD, compare your anti-piracy features in the next section.

Compare Your Anti-Piracy Features
Select the method by which you acquired Windows and compare the anti-piracy features included with your product with the anti-piracy features included with genuine Microsoft software.

Select your acquisition methodWindows was preinstalled on my new PCAcquired Windows via retail purchaseAcquired Windows Upgrade Volume License

More Information
If you would like more information about the costs and dangers of software piracy and why you should care, please visit our "why you should care" and "what you can do" pages. If you are a Software Reseller or OEM System Builder, please visit our Software Reseller page.

..... i'm going to do another hijack for you.. thanks for being patient.

OK, let's get this fixed up now:

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that 'Display the contents of system folders' is checked. If you have Windows XP, the search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that 'Search system folders', 'Search hidden files and folders', and 'Search subfolders' are checked.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Download CWSserviceRemove and unzip it to your desktop. It'll create a file called cwsserviceremove.reg. Do not run this yet.

Restart your computer and boot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key repeatedly until a menu shows up (and choose Safe Mode from the list). In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work. Make sure to close any open browsers. Uninstall the following via the Add/Remove Panel (Start->(Settings)->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs) if they exist:

TopMoxie
Spyware Stormer

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

C:\WINDOWS\system32\winip32.exe

Double-click on the cwsserviceremove.reg file you unzipped to your desktop earlier. When it prompts to merge, click Yes. This will clear some registry entries left behind by the malware infections.

Empty your Recycle Bin now.

Restart and run a new HijackThis scan. Save the log file and post it here.

Check and fix this again in HijackThis:

O15 - Trusted IP range: 206.161.125.149 (HKLM)

Right click on this link http://www.greyknigh...lO15Domains.inf and choose Save As. Save it to your desktop. Right click on that file and choose Install. It will run immediately (you won't be able to see anything happen). You may delete it afterwards.

I want you to run both of these scans (TrendMicro and Panda):

Run an online virus scan at TrendMicro http://uk.trendmicro...call_launch.php. Just follow the instructions on the site to run the free online scan. If any viruses/trojans are detected, try to delete or clean them in that site. If any are not cleanable, copy and paste the infected files here. You may also use Panda ActiveScan at http://www.pandasoft...ucts/activescan. Post the log from the Panda scan here.

I've done the TrendMicro Search twice.. each time finding 9 viruses... each time not letting me do anything because they need a key of some sort... and then i fill out all the information for the key.. and then it just stops.

I'm able to read most of the files that it has found.. but four of them I can't read the whole file name. I wrote them down and am trying to find them manually and having ewido delete them.

I've just been stuck on this. I'm going to try to delete the rest of them now manually.. then run the panda after i get back from work and give you an update.

Yes, delete those files manually if TrendMicro can't clean them.

Also restart and give me a new HijackThis log when you are done. I want to have one final look.

I still can't delete a couple files. They are all in a folder that I can't find.

C:\System Volume Information

I don't know how to reach it. TrendMicro says they need a ticket for them to work.. it just stays on the page with my information.

I'm going to do panda now.
