I followed the instructions on the "You must Read This Before Posting A Hijackthis Log" and I am still having problems with IE running slow. Popups have stopped, but Spybot still finds Elitum.EliteBar.

Any help would be welcome! Below is the Log:

Welcome to GTG.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that 'Display the contents of system folders' is checked. If you have Windows XP, the search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that 'Search system folders', 'Search hidden files and folders', and 'Search subfolders' are checked.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Download ETRemover and unzip it. Don't run it yet.

Restart your computer and boot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key repeatedly until a menu shows up (and choose Safe Mode from the list). In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work. Make sure to close any open browsers. Uninstall the following via the Add/Remove Panel (Start->(Settings)->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs) if they exist:

Viewpoint

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

O1 - Hosts: 64.91.255.87 www.dcsresearch.com
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ViewMgr] C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [stratas] ggfig.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [stratas] ggfig.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [stratas] ggfig.exe

Delete the following Files/Folders (delete folders if no filename is specified) according to their directory (if none, just do a search for them) and delete them if they exist:

C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\
ggfig.exe

Run ETRemover.exe now.

Restart and run an online virus scan at TrendMicro http://uk.trendmicro...call_launch.php. Just follow the instructions on the site to run the free online scan. If any viruses/trojans are detected, try to delete or clean them in that site. If any are not cleanable, copy and paste the infected files here. You may also use Panda ActiveScan at http://www.pandasoft...ucts/activescan. Post the log from the Panda scan here.

Then restart and run a new HijackThis scan. Save the log file and post it here.

The Temp folders should be cleaned out periodically as installation programs and hijack programs leave a lot of junk there. OK, before we go on, I want you to take note of this first. This program will wipe out all files in your Temporary folders, any file extensions that have a tilde (~) in it, .bak files, .chk files, .tmp files and index.dat files. Most of you should be ok with this, but there may be some who need these files. If you are one of them, do not follow this step. Post back a reply telling us about this. So if that's ok, then download CleanUp! http://cleanup.stevengould.org/ (Alternate Link if main link don't work - http://www.greyknigh...spy/CleanUp.exe ) and install it. Don't run it yet.

Download KillBox http://www.greyknigh...spy/KillBox.exe. Don't run it yet.

Boot into Safe Mode.

Check and fix this in HijackThis:

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [stratas] ggfig.exe

Delete that ggfig.exe file if it still exists (search for it).

Run KillBox and check the box that says 'End Explorer Shell While Killing File'. Next click on 'Delete on Reboot'. Copy the below files and go back to KillBox. Go to File->Paste from Clipboard and then hit the button with a red circle and white X. Confirm to delete and when asked if you want to reboot, say no:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\eliteabs32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\eliteapw32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\elitebvk32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\elitecwo32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\eliteczn32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\elitedso32.exe

C:\WINDOWS\system32\elitekbn32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\elitejle32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\elitemfu32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\eliteopa32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\elitesod32.exe

Go to Start->Run and type in regedit and hit OK. Go to File->Export and save the registry somewhere as a backup. While in the Registry Editor, navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\CLASSES\ and delete MAGNET

If any of the above registry keys are giving you problems deleting, right click on them and click on Permissions. Then click on the Advanced button. Make sure the first box (Inherit from parent...) is checked. Click OK and OK. Then try deleting the entry again. Once you're done, close the Registry Editor.

Run CleanUp! and click on CleanUp! button. Once it's done, you may click the Close button. When asked if you want to logoff, choose No.

Run ETRemover.exe again.

Restart and run another HijackThis scan. Save the log and post it here.

I followed the instructions you send but was not able to find the 04 - HKCU\..\Run:[stratas]ggfig.exe file running under safe mode. It came up again after running the prescribed procedures....and is included in the Log below.

I tried again in the safe mode....but the file was still not there.

Here is the log:

No problem. Fix that O4 entry in Normal Mode then.

Restart.

I want you to run a new TrendMicro and Panda scan. Post the logs here along with a new HijackThis log.

Boot into Safe Mode and run ETRemover.exe again.

Restart and run a new Panda scan. Is it still being detected now? If not:

Your log is clean.

To help prevent future spyware installations/infections, please read the Anti-Spyware Tutorial and use the tools provided.

Are there any problems now? If not, you should be set to go.

I ran ETRemover again and the "C:\WINDOWS\system32\elitelje32.exe" file still shows up in the Panda ActiveScan.

Any thoughts?

Download KillBox http://www.greyknigh...spy/KillBox.exe.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\elitelje32.exe

Restart. See if it still comes back now.

The file no longer shows up in the PandaScan....seems to have gotten rid of it. :tazz:

However, the computer still seems to run slow when scrolling pages. Would it be wise to run the series of steps listed under your Anti-Spyware Tutorial to see if other things may still be lurking around? It also sounds like I should look into using another browser other than IE.

Thank you for all of your help on this one!

It's only slow on the internet? Try this:

Download WinsockFix http://www.greyknigh.../WinsockFix.zip and unzip it. Then double-click on WinsockFix.exe to run it.

See if that repairs it. If not, try using the other browser - Firefox. It's much more secure to use than IE (at least for the time being). See if Firefox has the same problem.

You may run the steps outlined in the tutorial. You should have ran those earlier already (before you posted the HijackThis log).

Any other problems/questions before I close this topic?

I ran WinsockFix but it still runs slow and it is not just IE, other programs are sluggish when scrolling pages. I also downloaded Firefox and it runs slow as well. I didn't have these problems before I had received the infected file and posted to this site.

I ran all the steps posted in the tutorial before ever logging into this forum, but I was wondering if that would help to run again.

I really do appreciate all of your help.

OK, run those programs again, but they might not do anything to fix this up.

Try these:

Right click on http://www.silentrun...ent Runners.vbs and choose Save As...Save it to your Desktop. Make sure you have disabled any programs that may block/disable scripts (ex: Ad-Watch, TeaTimer, Norton, etc.). Double click on 'Silent Runners' to run it. This will take a few minutes. It will create a file called 'Startup Programs' followed by your computer name and current date. Open up that file and post all the contents here in your next post.

Please empty any Quarantine folder in your antivirus program and purge all recovery items in the Spybot program (if you use it) before running this tool.

Download the Mwav virus checker at http://www.mwti.net/antivirus/mwav.asp (Use Link 3)

1. Save it to a folder.
2. Reboot into Safe Mode.
3. Double click the Mwav.exe file. This is a stand alone tool and NOT just a virus checker......so it won't install anything.
4. Select all local drives, scan all files, and press SCAN. When it is completed, anything found will be displayed in the lower pane.
5. In the Virus Log Information Pane......
Left click and highlight all the information in the Lower pane --- Use &CTRL C &on your keyboard to copy everything found in the lower pane and save it to a notepad file
*Note* If prompted that a virus was found and you need to purchase the product to remove the malware, just close out the prompt and let it continue scanning. We are not going to use this to remove anything...but to ID the bad files.

Once you copy that to a Notepad file...highlight the text and copy it here.

I think I figured out what is wrong. Somewhere along the line during this whole process of cleaning up the computer, my video driver became corrupted/damaged (or I may have accidentally deleted it…good possibility) and I have now reinstalled the driver. Sluggish scrolling is back to normal and all Elitum EliteBar files seem to be gone!

Unless you think I should run the suggested actions in your previous post….I think everything is good on my end.

I can’t tell you how much I appreciate your help! Little by little I learn more about keeping my computer in good shape. The only other thing that I would request is a little info on how important donations are to the service you all provide and where/what the monies help fund and support. I feel a donation is in store for the service you provided me this past week.

Thanks again for all your help!
