Hi Jeff and welcome to GTG.

Please print out the instructions here (or save it in Notepad) so that you can follow along more easily.

Please download ewido security suite it is a free version of the program.
  • Install ewido security suite
  • When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck..
    • Install background guard
    • Install scan via context menu
  • Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop, double-click it.
  • The program will now open to the main screen.
  • When you run ewido for the first time, you will get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.
  • You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
    • On the left hand side of the main screen click update.
    • Then click on Start Update.
  • The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
(the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")
  • Exit ewido. DO NOT scan yet.
If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update ewido.
ewido manual updates

Download CCleaner and install it, but do not run it yet.

Please download this file: Revised Installer for the Nailfix Utility
Save it to your desktop.
DO NOT run it yet.

To reboot into SafeMode with Windows XP, you can follow these steps from Microsoft:

Next, please reboot your computer in SafeMode by doing the following:
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.
Once in Safe Mode, please double-click on nailfix.exe.
Click "Next" in the setup, then make sure "Run Nailfix" is checked and click "Finish".
Your desktop and icons will disappear and reappear, and a window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal.

Now open ewido and do a scan of your system.
  • Click on scanner
  • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • NOTE: During some scans with ewido it is finding cases of false positives.**
    • You will need to step through the process of cleaning files one-by-one.
    • If ewido detects a file you KNOW to be legitimate, select none as the action.
    • DO NOT select "Perform action on all infections"
    • If you are unsure of any entry found select none for now as the action.
  • Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
  • Click Save report.
  • Save the report .txt file to your desktop or a location where you can find it easily.
**(Ewido for example has been flagging parts of AVG Anti-Virus, pcAnywhere and the game "Risk")

Now run HijackThis, click Scan, and place a checkmark next to each of the following items:

Close all open windows except for HJT, then click the Fix Checked button. Close HJT.
NOTE: The 04 entry may have changed names if you have rebooted since posting the log; look for an entry with a similar format, that will always in in a single letter r.

Delete these if found:

C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\spcxt.dll
C:\WINDOWS\System32\exp.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\wintask.exe
C:\WINDOWS\cfgmgr52.dll,
c:\windows\system32\oiudoaw.exe
C:\Documents and Settings\Jeff\Application Data\eetu.exe
C:\WINDOWS\stubinstaller5975.exe
mscoree.dll
c:\counter.cab
c:\windows\SvcProc.exe

Do a search for w?nlogon.exe and right click on any of the files found. Go to Properties->Version tab and see if it's from Microsoft. Do this for each file found. If it's not from Microsoft (or doesn't even have a version tab) and it was created recently, then delete it.

Now run CCleaner.
  • Uncheck "Cookies" under "Internet Explorer".
  • If running Firefox: click on the "Applications" tab and uncheck "Cookies" under "Firefox".
  • Click on Run Cleaner in the lower right-hand corner. This can take quite a while to run.
Finally, restart your computer in normal mode and please post a new HijackThis log, as well as the report log from the Ewido scan by using Add Reply

Upload this file (C:\WINDOWS\system32\tcswapi.dll) to http://virusscan.jotti.org and report back what it found.

Download FindIt's.zip http://forums.net-in...=post&id=142443 to your desktop.

1. Unzip/extract the files inside to a folder on your desktop.
2. Open the folder. Double click on FindIt's.bat and wait for Notepad to open a text file. It will take a while so please be patient... Note: If you are having problems using FindIt's.bat (16 bit error), copy autoexec.nt from the C:\WINDOWS\repair folder to C:\WINDOWS\system32 folder. Now try running FindIt's.bat.
3. Then post the results here along with the new HijackThis log. Also post the Ewido scan results here.

Hi Greyknight,

When I double click on ewido it opens and then quickly closes, so I cannot update. Any ideas why and what I can do?

Thanks,
Jeff

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Download KillBox http://www.greyknigh...spy/KillBox.exe. Don't run it yet.

Boot into Safe Mode.

Run nailfix.cmd again.

Go to Start->Run and type in regedit and hit OK. Go to File->Export and save the registry somewhere as a backup. While in the Registry Editor, navigate to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ and delete aurora

If any of the above registry keys are giving you problems deleting, right click on them and click on Permissions. Then click on the Advanced button. Make sure the first box (Inherit from parent...) is checked. Click OK and OK. Then try deleting the entry again. Once you're done, close the Registry Editor.

Run KillBox and check the box that says 'End Explorer Shell While Killing File'. Next click on 'Delete on Reboot'. Copy the below files and go back to KillBox. Go to File->Paste from Clipboard and then hit the button with a red circle and white X. Confirm to delete and when asked if you want to reboot, say no:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\EERAXM.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe
C:\WINDOWS\wupdt.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\tcswapi.dll
C:\WINDOWS\svcproc.exe

Check and fix these in HijackThis:

F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ypmliho] c:\windows\system32\eeraxm.exe r
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Win Server Updt] C:\WINDOWS\wupdt.exe
O20 - Winlogon Notify: Explorer - C:\WINDOWS\system32\tcswapi.dll
O23 - Service: System Startup Service (SvcProc) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\svcproc.exe

Restart and post a new HijackThis and FindIt's log.

Hi greyknight - when I went to delete aurora from the registry, it was not there. I did a find on the whole registry and found three or four files that referred to Aurora, but I have not done anything with them yet. Should I delete them one by one or just proceed to the next step.

Thanks a lot for your patience and help.

You may do this:

Right click on this link http://www.greyknigh...spy/RegSrch.vbs and choose 'Save As'. Save it somewhere. Now run that program and do a search for these files (if more than one, make sure to search and save them separately):

aurora

Save the file/files and post the results in the forum.

Proceed with the remaining fixes after you posted the above result here. I will take a look at it.

Get noscript and run it. See if scripting is enabled. If not, enable it now and try running RegSrch again.

OK, just tell me where those 4 entries are located for Aurora. Easiest way to do this is to select the entry, then go to File->Export and save it to your desktop. Do this for all 4 locations. Then right click on each one of them and go to Edit. It should open up in Notepad. Paste those 4 file contents here.

Also post your new logs requested earlier when you are done.

Thanks - FYI - I still have popups trying to run.

Only one registry key referring to Aurora, but it seems to live on. Here is the exported key and below are the requested logs.

Download APT
Open apt and search in the window for the qylllb.exe.
Open your C:\Windows\system32 folder and search for the bad file (qylllb.exe). Don't delete it yet, just leave the system32 folder open so you can see the bad file.
In apt again, Select the bad process and Click Kill3

Then immediately delete the bad file from your system32 folder.

Run HiJackThis. Place a check next to this item and click FIX CHECKED:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [zguxemb] c:\windows\system32\qylllb.exe r
O20 - Winlogon Notify: SMDEn - C:\WINDOWS\system32\tcswapi.dll

Delete these if found:

C:\WINDOWS\iqiwwstdpik.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\QYLLLB.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\WUPDT.EXE
c:\windows\system32\qylllb.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\tcswapi.dll

Rescan with HiJackThis and post the new log.

I also want this log:

Download L2MFix from one of these two locations:

http://www.atribune....oads/l2mfix.exe
http://www.downloads....org/l2mfix.exe

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts. Then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing Enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening. After a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 or any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

Hi Grey Knight,

I could not find qylllb.exe. I also cannot delete tcswapi.dll - it says that it is being used. I followed your directions but it still seems to be hanging on. I have posted my latest HiJack log as well as the L2MFix log. I am going to sit tight until I hear back from you.

Thanks,
Jeff

Hi Jeff, don't worry we still didn't do the fixing in the last step yet. I wanted to confirm that it's ok first. So let's proceed now:

Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.

From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing Enter, then press any key to reboot your computer. After a reboot, your desktop and icons will appear, then disappear (this is normal). L2MFix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new HijackThis log.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder unless you are asked to do so!
